Exhaust Baffles

I've got an '07 SD with akropovics on it (the round type). As I bought the bike second hand it didn't come with the baffles in the pipes.
This sounds great, but I have had some registration issues and now have to put the bike over the pits so that I can have it registered again.
There is nothing wrong with the bike, but it will be well and truely too loud to pass the noise resitrictions as is.

I have spoken with KTM and apparently I can't buy just the baffle on its own from them.
Does anyone know where I can purchase baffles (ether ktm or universal) so I can get my girl back on the road again??
Or are there any other suggestions to quiten the bike, legally??

Cheers.

ebay sell a non OEM baffle that fits. Don't have a link I'm afraid but they are out there.

You can buy them from an Akropovic dealer. They have them at the Danish Akrapovic dealerships, and they cost about $100 US per baffle.. insane prices.. I have a friend that also have the round akras and he's making me a couple of baffles.. he works in a welder-type of job

Don't know what the regulations are in Aus but here in the UK noise is not something that many MOT tests cover. It's a grey issue. I've got to taking my bike to the MOT and sticking the Akro baffles on the seat with a bit of tape and saying, "Hey guys, if you need to fit these to pass the bike here they are". But I always pick the bike up and they haven't fitted them and they shrug and say, "No worries, don't need to do that". I also used to have a Ducati with home made carbon silencers....they had no EU certificate, no street legal status and I always passed the test. One guy who passed it said, "They are meant to sound like that aren't they!"

So... maybe you should just take the bike in and get it passed.

Here in Denmark they're going nuts about noise... I had an zx9r with an Akrapovic can, and the first two places wouldn't accept it, they told me it was too noisy and would only accept the bike if it had an original silencer on.. I even put in a DB killerand it was quieter, but they test the bike at 6000RPM, wtf.. everything is noisy up there... one guy just reved the engine once, till about 9000rpm, and then said "yeah its too loud, FAIL!" and failed the bike... shithead

Another guy even told me I could had borrowed his silencer from the zx6r he had, mount it and then he would let the bike pass.. wtf arghh..

In the end, I looked up the Akrapovic website that had some other end-pipe than mine, but on the zx9r bike.. and I put in another picture, changed the text a bit so the model years were correct.. and I got the papers from the initial year my model was introduced in Denmark etc.. lot of paper work, but in the end, the papers said that the Akra silencer was 97db, while the bike was allowed to do 98db (with a 3db overhead, because of "tear and wear on the exhaust")... I arrived 3 minutes in closing time on a friday, and he didnt want to spend too much time with the papers.. I just convinced him that the stuff was right, he looked briefly at it, and said they were okay.. damn what a stupid hassle

I think there are a few SD riders in perth that would have a standard set of pipes lying about. throw them on and get it tested. Or even go see a KTM dealer and ask if they have some oldies lying around...or even baffles..?

It is the same here in Melbourne, they dont like road noise over 96db. I tested mine and with Ti Akra's without the baffles at home on my db tester and it reads over 110db at 2k rpm..!!

Or you could get an exhaust shop to make some up for you, shouldnt be too hard as they would have the tools to get the sizes right.

I have some akro baffles for the non-round type so I'm not sure they would fit. But round akros should be a pretty similar fit as well inbetween bikes I would have thought.

I also have the stock pipes if needed, I kept them for just such an occasion!

Surely they would be able to get some in for ya at the store?

I have spoken with KTM Australia and they claim that Akrapovic do not sell the baffles on their own and it seems like a waste of money to buy another complete Akrapovic slipon set. Also no luck with trying to find a universal baffle through any after market supplier.
I just want my baby back on the road....

Does any one have a link to a universal baffle that I could purchase?
Or any one in Perth willing to allow me to borrow a standard set of pipes laying around for a few days??

Do the evo baffles fit the round ones? If so you can borrow them for the pits.

I've read somewhere that the round ones have a wider opening.
That's why I asked for the diameter.

Thanks guys, the internal diameter of the pipes is 50mm.

I bet you could have some very simple ones made. The home made jobs for the FMF Apex exhaust spring to mind. I bet it would cost you way less than the $100 Akrapovic is asking for theirs (each!!?!?!). Just my .02
