Was that @ TJ's? I've been bracing myself for around a $500 bill - not that it's OK, but this seems to be a somewhat expensive bike to maintain if you don't do everything yourself.
$218 for the initial service at Fun Cycles in Valdese, NC, so I would say yours was a little steep. I was a little surprised when I got the bill, I was expecting alot more. The service manager initially quoted a 3-4 hour service @ $65/hr + around $60 for oil/filter, but I didn't think he would actually stick to those numbers.
there are a few post on this already. Around here in Colorado, it is 8h @ $80/h. For the first service it is $600!!!
KTM says it should be 4.5h, I contacted KTM to ask them and they said that the dealers can charge whatever the hell they want, they don't have to stick to anything ktm says...

FYI:
once you actually get to check the valves, adjusting them is not that much more work..
