Fitting/refitting clutch issues

ok, this image might help. When I first removed the pressure plate I didn't take note of where each disc was, then when refitting it (the final disc came out with the pressure plate) I wasn't sure where to put the final disc, so came on here to check.

So I found out where each disc should be (as in the image below, before my edit), then went back into the garage. Removing my cover revealed that my 2nd to last disc (as in order of fitting) was in the slot that the final disc should be in! It was definitely like that before I got involved (i.e. my clutch worked fine with it there...) so maybe I should put it back?!

Looking at the image, if my 2nd to last disc was put back to where I found it, the whole height of the clutch pack would be greater, right? So the bolts I'm asking about would have to compress the springs more in order to touch the clutch pack.

I hope this all makes sense!

p.s. will be picking up my torque wrench on tuesday and diving into the garage, hopefully I'll know exactly what to do by then...

In your photo, there is waaaayyy too much of a gap between the last friction plate and the 2nd to last friction plate. I believe this is becasue the bolts have not been tightend up all the way or the metal between the last 2 friction plates is not installed correctly. The pressure plate bolts should be tightend up all the way until they bottom out pulling the pressure plate against the whole clutch pack (ie, no gaps between plates).
