Front Fork Oil cooked

I am having my fork oil replaced for the second time due to loss of rebound damping. First time at 15000 miles when bike 3 years old. now done 23000 miles and has the same problem, lack of rebound damping. Having to set rebound to 0 not my usual 12 clicks to get any sort of damping.(still not good)

I am aware the KTM recommend 9000 between fork oil changes, but don't know any one else who changes the oil or has this issue.
The fork seal have never leaked and I have pressure release valves fitted??

Just curious to see if I'm unique

I think a lot of people just don't notice the way suspension performance drops off m8 as its so slow to happen. I include myself in that. Mine has done 44k miles and I've only changed it twice. I'm giving serious consideration to getting my forks and shock re-valved but I've been hemorrhaging money on the SD and apparel recently.

Just buck up and get it changed, it really makes a world of difference. I just recently changed my fork oil over and the difference in handling is night and day.

I had those bleeder valves fitted to my forks last year and noticed that the front end after a short period of riding felt like shit.I changed the bleeders back to the standard philips screws and problem solved. Some of those bleeder valves must leak air.But changing fork and shock oil every second service is the key to good reliable suspension.I had my suspension professionally revalved from new and apart from the above mentioned problem I have done 80,000 plus kms on tar and dirt road and lot's of track without moving a clicker.Cheers

Yes I think your right 666.The bike just gets faster the more miles I do but I don't commute, just long country blasts and track days.Tappets still need no adjustment and water pump fine[touch wood].

That makes me really happy.....as I can never imagine wanting to get rid of mine....so if mine lasts anything like that distance (its on 12k miles) this will last longer than me

I typically replace mine every 3k miles or so. Serious racers replace after every event as the oil breaks down fairly quickly.

Think I'll leave that to my friendly mechanic, but let me know how you get on Craig, looks easy .

By the way you found that footage of the overtake at Snetterton?? I know it was quick and you didn't notice but, the camera see's all...

Does everyone just use the standard weight oil, or has there been any experiments with different weights ?

My forks are well overdue for some TLC - it's a 06. Not a lot of miles but I really should get around to changing the oil.
