Front wheel reinstall query

Just fitting Dymags to my 07 SDR!

Funny thing I noticed about the front axle is that if I push it all the way through, and torque up the nut (whilst its being held by the right side pinch bolts), it sits proud of the left fork? I didn't notice it when I took the wheel off, is this normal, or have I fooked something up?

These pics are after both sets of pinch bolts have been loosened and the front end vigorously bounced:

What is this plastic cap? I can't see mine!?

Anyone?

Am I missing a spacer? As far as I remember, there was only the top hat spacer on the left side of the wheel...?
