Oh oh, big problem: My SD doesn't have antifreeze in the cooling system and the temperatures are dipping around -13c. Expecting cracked heads, radiator, hoses, water pump and who knows what else.

I ca see that some fluid has leaked, including at the base of one of the heads. I think my SD will need to see the doctor soon...

Anybody stupid enough to have similar experience?
Oh dude I'd warm it up and once you are happy she's not frozen any more I'd turn her over and see what happens. Maybe disconnect the coil packs at first and listen for any bad sounds. If not start her and see if she leaks. Are you running water because you race it? I'd def drop that what ever happens before it gets nay worse! Keep fingers crossed for you.

I know when a few of us went to Cartagena 3 years ago, Focussed Events did say in their documents to drop the fluids if you run water. The lorries drive through the Pyrenees and the bikes will freeze. Some dude on a blade didn't and got there to find engine cases cracked. Poor fecker just ended up getting next flight home
Jody's bike was was frozen to death last year sat in his van up in the Alps, all it shagged was the battery and there was frost all over it!
I bet he had antifreeze in it though.
I did but i don't know how well it works at -30 !!

And while it did fook my battery it was kinda on it's way out anyway !
There's 5 bikes in my garage that need antifreeze and we've had temps down to ~25 F. Not sure what -13C is but doesn't sound pleasant. I think if it's in some sort of garage or enclosed space the bike should be somewhat insulated from actual outside temp by a few degrees. Since we're only below freezing for no more than 6 hours I haven't been too worried.

I would call Motocam to see if they have any 990 wrecks for parts.
I don't actually race but ave a habit of doing track days. I've actually done 5 track days last summer. Most tracks do not allow regular antifreeze, that's why I had my dealer put some other "track approved" stuff instead.

I think I will try to talk to my mechanic before firing it up..

Maybe I should start to look for a used engine, as Willh suggested.

Any other suggestions on a place to find such an engine? If I have to get a used engine, maybe I should look for a Superduke R engine? Superdukes are not very commun around here. Fining a used engine might prove difficult.

Thanks for your help.

If you are going to run straight water its best to drain it before you put the bike away for the winter, also stops the corrosion you get with running water,
Give it a good flush in the spring to before refilling, loads of crap will come out from sitting dry for a few months,
Oh and no worries with freezing up to
