Fuel tank qestion

If you are sitting on your bike and you look down at your fuel tank opening with the door open, at the 8 o'clock position there is a round hole that looks like it has brass threads in it. At least on mine it does, it almost looks like I am missing something.
Could someone look at theirs and see it is the same as mine?
Does anybody know what it does?
