Gearbox issues?

During Tuesday's practice at the track, I had a couple of times when, during aggressive downshifting after a long straight, I would "lose" the gear. It'd be full throttle, hard brake, fourth, third, bam, bam, then just a big fooking rattle instead of second gear. When you're in a fast group of riders and have to brake late and go hard on the throttle in order to overtake sportsbikes, it almost got me rear-ended.

The first time I took the escape, went into the pits and looked at the bike. Didn't find anything.
The second time, I just kicked another gear in, cursed a bit (ok, a lot), and thought about what new underwear I should get as the ones I was using probably were full of poo as the R1 I had overtaken almost took my rear wheel out.

Any ideas? Is this a common issue? Again, the bike is a 2009 SuperDuke R.

I had some small issue getting clean shifts at first. I think the SD gear box is quite agricultural and the distance the gear lever has to travel to is pretty long, making shifts difficult. I got used to it pretty quickly though.

I just did a trackday too. I have the same experience, also with 'spirited' road riding;

going down the gears even very aggressively works fine for me if you allow a second or 2 for the motor/box to rev through the gear with the clutch out and also change firmly (and when tyres are warm the rear tyre doesn't slip too much -it does when cold), but trying to go through more than 1 gear at a time usually results in a box of spanners - i.e. tapping down 2 gears at once even with a little throttle rev in between often results in a false neutral.

Yeah, that's probably it.

I'll have to look into it when I install the HM Quickshifter.

Cheers, mates.

I had two false neutrals at the track the other week too. No power through a turn is not cool.

I blip the throttle during down shifts (to match engine speed with road speed) for each cog selected and have not had any issues. One RH corner at the end of a realitively long straight required three downshifts (5th to 2nd) through a LH kink and bliping the throttle worked fine for me. Was wishing for a slipper though.

The throw feels really long for me compared to my other bikes. That was my biggest problem I think, not following through on the motion

A common problem for some unfortunatly! It seems with the SD boxs you either get a good-un or a pig!

Mines a pig! Street riding it never misses a gear (or maybe that should be i never miss a gear) but when on track in the heat of fast down shifts it only takes a tiny lapse in concentration and you end up in a neutral hole of clicking grinding cogs with no apex in sight

This is 1 box that you have to be really really positive with!!!!!!!
