Gregz

Hi Gents,

My Dyno run is completed.... I will scan and post the graphs shortly.

The data:
Model - 2005 KTM SD 8102 kms
Max Hp - 120.4 hp at 8917 rpm
Max torque - 101.9 nm at 7872 rpm
Max Speed 220 km/h
Gearing - 16/38T
Mods - Akro with mod baffles + mod airbox + DNA
A/F ratio - running rich through all range avg 13:1
(max 12.6:1 at 5500 rpm)
Midrange Peak Power - 80 hp at 5500 rpm (100 nm at 5500 rpm)

Runing very well... but even with the DNA, opened intake runner and dual velocity stacks... it needs more air!... this may increase max hp a little at >9000rpm as it is running rich.
Also it will improve midrange from 4000 to 7500rpm as that is the main rich range.

Compared to a standard SD on the same dyno, it has considerably more HP and Torque from 'idle' to 7000 rpm and a slightly higher HP rating. Stock measured 117.2 hp at 8667 rpm on 15/11/2006.

Conclusion:
1) More Air needed!
2) Need todrop gearing for a road bike (17/38T for track minimum)

Impressive...........

So finally your bike made it to the dyno Gregz. Applause!...

Considering the amount of mods done and all the theory thrown at it I don't think the results are that impressive. My bike does 122HP and 103-104 Nm with only an off the shelf Akra system and DNA filter.

You can't make a comparison with 'a standard SD' on the same dyno. Bikes and measuring conditions between runs differ too much for that. The only useful comparison would have been your SD before the mods...

I'm interested to see how the power & torque curves look!

Richard.

Hi Richard,

Cheers... although..... my applicable mods that influence the power curve are below (exluding Akro mufflers, which are a must):

1) dual velocity stacks AU$10.00
2) modified baffles AU$0.00
3) modified intake runner AU$0.00
4) deburred headers AU$0.00
5) heatwrapped exhaust AU$30.00
6) DNA filter AU$155.00
----------------------------------------
Total AU$195.00

I would even exclude the filter.. it really does not influence power much; leaving a total cost of AU$40.00 ... now I do call that impressive.

BTW - I wonder if Wyne is using the same bike from Hwy Performance to setup the Tuneboy???

Anyway... my 2 bob worth.

My dyno results are now availble in the Gallery:

SD is a 2005 model with 8000kms on the clock.
Modified intake, Akro mufflers with baffles, heat wrapped exhaust.
Weather fine and warm, no rain, approx 25 deg Cel.

Comparison of Gregz modified SD against Stock SD both 2005 models:

Comparison of Gregz modified SD against modified Ducati M900:

Dyno graph with A/F ratio:

Notes on Ducati M900 engine:
900cc engine with high comp pistons
bored & polished intake runners
port matched intake and exhaust
Kiehin FCR 41mm flatsides with Powernow
Pod Uni-filters
Single sided Foran exhaust

KTMax, Comparativly speaking... ie. not scientifically...

'all' the KTM dyno graphs that I have seen are almost identical in shape, torque and power curves.

obviously the #'s hp, nm, etc will not match exactly... but they will be close.
We have seen approx:
117hp at the wheel in standard trim
120hp with 'mufflers' only
124hp with the Akro exhaust system and mufflers

Considering that all the figures are close in all instances... we can assume that the shape of the curves will also be reasonably close. Lets all have a look and make our own minds up at effectiveness.

The news is that my flapper mod, cammed quickthrottle, etc have no impact on these full throttle runs... so power delivery will still be completely subjective. Let's say that with the A/F ratio - I can certainly use some fine tuning using Tuneboy!

GUY'S ...GUY's....Handbags at fifty paces or what! Richard, take deep breaths and count to ten. Firstly, I have to agree with you, 117 bhp for a standard superduke seems a little optimistic, I've yet to see a dyno graph, of which there are many in the press, of one making over 112 bhp. 108 to 110 seems to be the norm, even with temp, humidity position of the moon etc I think that this sort of figure is more realistic, not that I'm calling gragz a liar eitherfor the record. Secondly, I think the DNA filter evidence is subjective, I put one on and the difference was Jack Sh*t, although you have evidence to the contrary and you have to accept that it works differently on bikes with different mods, but you are right in saying that a before and after dyno is the only true comparison. Wether or not you like the mods that Gregz applies to his bike, you have to take it for what it is, it's his thing! He doesn't have his own dyno or flow bench, so he does his homework and has a go, something that even you can't argue with. You obviously have a vast knowledge of engine dynamics, just as Gregz, but whereas you follow a tried and tested route with guaranteed results (like me) Gregz like's to find his own route, looking for that one magic mod that will give him a couple of hp and that fantastic feeling of job satisfaction. I know that feeling well, as do you, and anyone who modifies bikes, how we get it is down to the individual. I sometimes smile to myself when I read about Gregz next mod and think, 'Nutter, that will never work' but can you honestly say that you would't try it if it did work? I couldn't. Don't mistake Gregz over exuberance to tell everyone for addoration and self congratulation, he's just doing his thing Take it for what it is, a bloke in his workshop trying out some stuff 'cos he likes to, in fact why not give him a hand with some positive feedback or help, I like to poke him in the ribs now and again, it keeps him on his toes, after all, this is just a forum, a place where numpties like me get some usefull information from the likes of you and Gregz, and make some friends on the way. I don't like falling out with anyone, a bit of banter is fine, but life's too short to get hung-up on someone's opinion, there's much better things to do with our time, like ride bikes like looney's, it's much more fun and keeps my blood preasure down. As a man has just said on this thread...that's my two bobs worth. [/i]

Here, here (or is it hear, hear? I'm never sure about that one)

Without nutters like GregZ experimenting there would be no advancement in science.

Who, for instance, would have thought that you could distill that black mucky tar stuff that oozes out of the ground in the middle east into something that we all use for so much fun? (even if that rogue, Tony B'liar rips off the average punter to the tune of 90p a litre)

Probably GregZ great great great grandad!

Well done that man and keep up the good work
