Gutting the stock exhaust, anyone?

Hi Guys,

It's been ages since I've been on the forum, glad to see it's still very much alive and active!

I am thinking about gutting the muffler of the SDuke but think there is probably some ECU re-mapping required after that, any thoughts, comments, advice on this?

(I did a search for "gutting + exhaust" which only returned a thread where it ended being about putting some aftermarket on, and since, in my humble opinion, there is absolutely nothing on the market that comes even remotely close to look as good and integrated as the stock pipes it is not an option for me. If I missed THE thread plesase let me know.

Gutting the pipes is the way for me to keep the original design unaltered 'cuz I think it's close to perfection while adding a bit of sound for everyday commute amongst a sea of bad Cali drivers (Bad California driver being highly redundant...) ).

THANKS!

Hi,
Forgive me for being lazy, but search again and you will find. There are threads on decating. My old fart memory tells me there is at least one example on YouTube.

The process in theory is simple, grind off weld, rip the cat out, consider putting bigger bore / more aggressive inner pipes in the tail of silencer/muffler.

Use someone who is darn good at neat stainless steel welding to put back together.

Go to dyno.

I ride around with gutted stock pipes. I cleared the whole triangular part of the silencers, and had it welded shut again.
If I would do it again I would put something like a Y-piece of perforated pipe wrapped in dampingwool inside the triangle.

Because the whole area is empty now, the exhaust note is a bit hollow/metal.

I did this my vid is on YouTube under "stock exhaust vs decatted" there is a thread on this. Sounded "tinny" though.

As far as I'm concerned the only drawback to this mod, the sound. A decent set of slip ons will sound much better.

Thats the vid anyway. IMO just buy a proper exhaust.
