Headlight Swap

A friend and I are changing plastics before he trades his SD in. The headlight mask looked like a real pain to get off, but the entire headlight assembly came right off with four bolts.

Can I swap the entire assembly between the bikes without worrying about the odometer and such, or does the speedo/tach/odometer portion need to stay with the original bike it came from?

I guess a better question would be: What happens when you switch speedo/tach/odometer's between bikes?

Thank for the link, but it's not exactly my situation. I'm swapping from an '08 to an '08. The goal is to swap my plastics(black) for his (white) with as little muss and fuss as possible.

It appeared easier to swap the entire headligh mask assembly than it would be to remove and re-install the colored plastics.

This won't be the case if the tach/speedo/odo module won't swap between bikes.

Don't have that model but I would have thought it shouldn't be too difficult to swap the display unit over, unplug a couple cables from the loom and a few screws surely.

From what I've heard swapping the panels is a bit of a pain.

Swapping the clocks between bikes wont be a problem.
Only problem will be the mileage difference between the bikes.

I would bite the bullet and unscrew the fins from the masks and swap them.

Mileage is stored in the clocks not the ECU I have replaced my clocks twice and now have a 4.5k miles display on a 31.5k miles 08 SDR...........

While it is true that it is stored in the clocks, Grendel's service tech updated the milage in the new set of clocks so match his warrentied set.

AFAIK mileage can only be set on NEW clocks.
