Say DrJ,
Man, sorry to hear of such misfortune, im very interested to learn of the malfunction, This is why I really dont like anyone dicking with my stuff, human errors are inevitable in this world. Loosing oil pressure is always a very dangerous thing, really does not matter why it only matters. Its just like overheating....a pinhole leak can lead to catastrophic results. Hope to hear its only minor?

UPDATE:

I just got off the phone with Todd Jones who is the manager of customer service for KTM N.A. Some of you will be stunned by some of the answers I got; others won't.

First, KTM is waiting for a repair estimate on my engine to determine if they're going to repair it or replace it. That is, they do not routinely replace defective engines on bikes a tad over 2 months old and with only 1700 miles on them.

Second, with regard to extending my warranty given my trust issues about the reliability of this bike, they don't do this either. They might extend the warranty some if the bike is in the shop for an extended period of time but only in relationship to time spent in the shop. However, should my engine failout of warranty, "they will consider the service history".

So, exactly where is this great customer sevice and support I've been hearing about?! Based upon my experience thus far, it appears to be a myth. Therefore, I won't be buying an Adventure from my dealer as I had planned to do this Fall. Clearly, KTM is not looking for me to be a repeat customer. I find this rather strange in that I paid $14,000 for the bike and probably have another $4500 in KTM accessories on it.

I suspect that it going to get very ugly before it gets resolved to my satisfaction. I'll keep y'all posted on how this plays itself out...[/u]

I've got to say, this is the first major engine problem I've heard about in 2 years of SD ownership. If there were any major issues with the LC 8, I'm sure the info would have trickled down from the Adventure owners, who have had this engine the longest. Unfortunatly it seems you got the 'Friday afternoon' engine, which I dare say can be repaired, but the aftersales and attitude of KTM NA, seems a little unhelpfull to say the least. Stick to your guns and keep at 'em until you get what you want, everybody hates a thorn in their side, so the thornier you are, the better.

The SD and SDR share both the motor and the trans. I was just saying that KTM could have come back with some kind of bullshit saying that they only prepped the SDR for track missions.

Steering damper, frame material, color, tail and suspension are the changes.

Congrats on getting the problem resolved, I'm sure KTM is really trying in the US to win over the customers being that this is the first major release of streetbikes in the country Adventure excluding but I call that a dual sport.

DrJ, And what a testimony it will be. You may not know my whole story but my 07 SD is down on power @ low end, and naturally im paranoid, and very curios about ANY LC8 running problem, but after looking at all of these various multitudes of choppy throttle response and so on.....since mine is glassy smooth, Im doin ok.
Do you ride on the street? Have you ever been to deals gap N.C.? Ive said it many times that all the feedback from people Ive known for years, opinion of KTM the company is 2nd to none....we will see then wont we?
