I like a good horn, something they can hear even over the Akras......and the SD horn was always so pathetic...I didn't want it to get too complicated, so no relays or air horns or anything like that...I've always thought the SD battery is a bit marginal and can't take too much strain...so I bought an aftermarket Stebel Magnum horn 136 db. and wedged it in under the bottom spoiler..and it was a lot louder but not all that loud..then it died (from water, dirt, bugs?) and I sort of cleaned it out and got it working again but it was never the same...Then I tried an old late 70's Yamaha horn (off one my XT500s) that was about twice the size of the original SD horn and it was marginally alright, legal anyway.
Then I bought a '98 Buell LIghtning...I tried the horn...nice...deep and loud...it "HONKS" rather than "beeps". Swapped it out with an old early 80's Honda (loud "beep") horn...so the Buell now still is legal with a loud "beep", but the Superduke has the big Buell horn that really honks...mounted it up on the side between my two crash protectors...see photo. So...if you like a good horn....steal one off an old Buell.HONK HONK
