it plugs into the ECU but it is a bitch to unplug as there is fook all room.

The switch mechanism is connected to the bottom of the ignition barrel via two phillips head bolts, just undo the bolts and the black bit at the bottom of the barrel will drop off with the cable attached, once removed you'll just be left with the barrel and steering lock attached to the top triple.
