Instument Cluster Faulty

'08 SD got issues with Instrument Cluster.
First symptom, noticed my clock had reset to 1200
Then while riding along, the tacho went to 0, speedo dissapeared, and the panel showed something like: Soft dot 10.1
It came back eventually and worked fine, although the clock needed re-setting.

Next time i went to start it, the speedo had backlight, back showed none of the self-test stuff.
Bike started and ran o.k.

Weird huh.
Is it moisture or a dodgy relay or something.?

Cheers,
BlueFlame.

if its an 08, the battery is probably starting to go... incorrect voltages can play havoc with euro bikes

If you have been near it with a high pressure washer it is moisture. Don't do it the SD dash doesn't like this.
One of my mates likes his karcher and is on his 3rd dash.

Search 'soft 32 - dat 101'...................faulty battery, rectifier and/or respective wiring and earth(s).

I had the same problem on my bike last year, turned out to be a bad earth.

just rode to videoezy for a rental, the instrument cluster worked fine.

It could have been moisture: i just remembered after washing the bike the other day then idling the engine
steam was coming off the radiator and floating around the instrument cluster, the speedo display fogged up a bit [only for couple min's]

I'm careful not to spray too much water near electronic stuff.
Maybe if that was the cause, as it dries out will give me no trouble?
here's hoping.
thanks for your ideas fellas!

Mine has just done that this morning!

Just had brand new clocks cos the last ones were fogging up. Its all a bit weird. I'm gonna try and disconnect it all tonight and feed a load of air and contact spray in to drive the water out.

I don't think its the battery cos I've just had a new one of those under warranty too?

I love this bike but man it doesn't ike the winter

So cleaned it all up, no moisture at all. Been reading through the threads and I'm 100% its the regulator. New battery 3 months ago, blown headlights bulb and fast indicators.

Now just to persuade ktm to pay for it under warranty! 2 bloody trips to the dealer now for them to tell me what we already know.

Great

crazy how similar all our symptoms are, yet there's suptle differences that lead to different diagnosis.
I've had no issues with globes blowing or fast indicators [meaning system is over-charging]

Having said that, when i'm in the shed next, i will check the charge rate.

Well that was surprisingly easy, local dealer has new regulator on order now.

Happy days.

Hats off to our local BMW/KTM dealer who sorted the Regulator for me and even delivered it 20 miles up the road for me to fit. All under warranty.

Problem solved, all fine now.

Oh and sorry for the thread hijack
