Hi Pingvin.....
Push or pull depends on where the shift rod is placed. If you shift up you have to look at your shift rod, if the rod is pushed, you need a push switch, if it is pulled you need a pull switch. It is different from bike to bike, and dosent have anything directly to do with reverse shift pattern or not. (i hope you understand my explanation.... )
I was riding with reverse shift pattern on my R6, but i feel comfortable with both setup. I was planning to change the superduke to reverse shift pattern, but i now also have a supermotard, and that one cant be changed, so i stick to normal on both bikes. That way i dont screw up one of the gearboxes (i am mostly concerned about the SD).
It really is down to what works best for you, i can ride with both shift patterns, reverse shift pattern works fine on the road no problem. I guess 85% of all hard core racers use reverse shift pattern, but there is quite a few that stick to stock (including a danish and scandinavian champion..... ).
When you use quickshift it is important that you shift (activate the shift rod) 'hard/quick/determinded', then it will perform the best. It is easier to activate the shift rod 'hard/quick/determined' if you 'step on it' in stead of pulling with your boot, but everything is possible with a little practice.......
