Leaking Fuel Tank

Not having much luck with the SD lately.

While I was putting back the side panels yesterday after installing the Symtec Heated Grips and noticed the left hand side of the petrol tank was leaking.
The leak is where the bottom bolt of the side panel screws into the tank. There is a constant drip of petrol which gets worse when I hand screw in the bolt - goes from a drip into a stream of petrol.

From previous post I learnt that this might be caused by 'over tighten' the bolt. (A serious flaw if you ask me, with petrol having a habit of combusting and all!!)

Read some people managed to fix it by using Fiberglass glue. I'd like to understand how they actually applied the fix.
Do I need to drain the petrol tank or can prop up the tank and dry off the area before applying the fiber glass glue?

Open to other suggestions on how to fix it too.

As my bike is out of warranty by a year and this happend while servicing the bike myself I am pretty sure that I won't get a 'free' tank from KTM.
Eventhough I do think that this is massive flaw in their design & build quality.

JJLester - How did you manage to get the resin into the tank? Is it gel based stuff that your poured into the affected area's of the tank?

Joe, both the araldite and Loctite are supposed to be oil and chemical proof but I take your point about being carefull not to wreck the tank.
Found this stuff on Fleabay which might to the trick as well:

Had the same problem. the right side screw for the side panel made petrol just come running out.

My advice would be to drain the tank, put in the epoxy glue or whatever you think wouldnt be eaten up by fuel, put the screw in a few times, like every 10 minutes just so you dont close the passage up.
Also leave the cap open to help it dry...

Good luck, its just a pity we have to deal with such %$%^$@ quality sometimes on a bike that rides so nice...

I used some Epoxy Resin around the bottom extremities where the side panel attach. Seemed to have done the job for a while but there is still some petrol sweating from the LH side.
I'll be looking to try one of the petrol tank sealer. It won't be the caswell one though as it cannot be shipped by air.
