Duke of Dork
Heard a disturbing noise today.
Was busting to take the SD out for a run, but there was too much salt on the roads, so decided to fit the crash bobbins to the front and rear spindles, and the carbon protectors to both the clutch and ignition covers instead.
Now to me the next best thing to actually riding the SD is listening to the addictive sound the thing makes, - and it only has the standard cans.
It was at this point I was disturbed by what I heard; a heavy knocking noise for the first 3-5 seconds on start up, the oil light didn’t come on but was obvious there was a lack of pressure somewhere, and sounded not unlike a knackered camshaft and as if it was coming from the rear cylinder??? ..... It was quite loud and could easily be heard over the exhaust, the engine was on cold start fast idle and I didn’t rev at all, just as I was about to turn off the engine the noise stopped, I let it idle for a further 20 seconds monitoring the oil light before turning off the engine.
After about 5 minutes I restarted it but everything sounded fine.
This is the first time I’ve heard this, but it’s only done just over 100 miles and is 4 days old, I also rode the bike yesterday and it was ok.
Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of anything similar.
