Lowering the pegs - the cheap way

Hi remember me? I guess not.
A mate from work totalled his '06 last year. And his knee in the process.
Now that he's back on 2 wheels it's a brand new '08. Trouble is the knee won't bend enough anymore so he looked into a cheap way of just lowering the pegs. He couldn't find anything on the Net so he asked me if I knew a solution.
So here's one I made earlier.

Another view. The pegs are from MFW, 28 euro.
Of course he'll have to try them on the bike first before I do the RH side and clean up the parts.
He now has 3 different positions. Stock and two positions on this one. The mod flips up just like the stock peg. Image

Hope this was useful.

Hi Befbever, that is very tastefully done, I see that the rearsets on the jap bikes are rigid and do not fold, in a crash this has been known to help save

parts, any thoughts/pros, vs cons on folding vs non-folding? I would be interested in the parts I am viewing since I have bad knees.

Thank You,
joe

One of the things with the first part was that I filed it down from the 25 mm I needed for the peg diameter to the 22 mm it is at the pivoting point. This was an easier way of doing that.
You will notice the kind of rough surface on the inside - got surprised by an overzealous milling cutter - but you don't see that when it's on the bike. The spring needs a cavity to fall into, hence the milling there. Image

These should lower the pegs by a further 5 mm compared to the first one. I also increased the space between the threaded holes so it looks cleaner.
I made a huge mistake by sawing off 3 mm on its twin part - lapse of concentration I guess - but that doesn't change the space between the various holes so it'll still fit. The only thing you'll notice is that the spring hook on the top sits 3 mm above the surface....
The parts are otherwise identical and interchangeable.

I'm done with this for now. Time to ride! Image

Thanks but considering labour cost I'd have to charge the price of some fancy rearsets!

My mate's account here hasn't been confirmed yet so here are some pics he sent me.
Note that the first wash took off the Akra stickers! Not being an Akra fan myself I find this most amusing.
The peg lowers work great and look OE. His left foot still touches the ground in corners but that's because the knee won't bend enough to allow him to put his toes on the peg. Yet. Another operation should sort that.
Meanwhile he's very comfortable on the bike. Yay!
