Michelin Power Pure - Pressures

Quick bit of information which I picked up from Michelin - thought I'd share it with the community if anyone else is trying out the Power Pure tyres on the KTM....

"We would advise that for your 2007 KTM Super Duke 990 if on tyre sizes front 120/70 – ZR17 58W T/L (tubeless) and Rear 180/55 – ZR17 73W T/L the tyre pressures should be as follows:-

Front – 33 psi (pounds per square inch)
Rear – 36 psi (pounds per square inch)

You would be advised to follow values indicated in the motorcycle handbook in relation to the tyre size fitted – specifications can change without our knowledge.

The tyre pressures when using the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT for track use (set when tyres are cold), should be as follows:-

Dry Conditions
Front – 31 psi (pounds per square inch)
Rear – 27/28 psi (pounds per square inch)

Wet Conditions
Front – 33 psi (pounds per square inch)
Rear – 30 psi (pounds per square inch)

We also recommend that tyres should be reset to their original Road pressures when going back to road riding after track use (set when tyres are cold)."

I would add that I found them noticeably lighter than the Pirelli Corsa 3s which I had on there previously. Apparently, due to the kevlar that they use in them. May be worth a try...

Thats me confused again, thought it was 34 front and rear for road and track?????????????

This was from asking Michelin direct. Tyre fitters and KTM shops may have their own recommendations.

Not sure which is the best to go with. I would have assumed the tyre manufacturer - but mebbe I'm wrong.

Ok so I checked back with Michelin and they have confirmed that they stand by the information they gave me (see above).

I have read around the forum and seen the link which cjc posted (viewtopic.php?p=149210#p149210):

The garage which put them on say that use 34/34 on road and take advice of local track tyre guys for track pressures.

I've run the Pure's on MV Brutale at the track at 34psi cold, as suggested by the tyre vendors there. The reason is, from what was explained to me, is that Michelin constructed the tyre using less material due to a different construction, which in turn lightens up the tyre, and therefore reducing rotating mass for better turn in. Due to the thinner construction of the tyre, you have to run higher pressures to keep the tyres shape. I've felt the Pure's and compared them to Dunlop 211 and Bridgestone BT-003, and can say they were very floppy and pliable. I could squeeze them very easily, and could not squeeze the other two very much. So 34psi is probably the best starting point.

i don't mean to sound cynical here, but, the tyre vendor wouldn't be hoping to see you chew through your tyres quicker in the hope of selling another would he??
either way, they're made by michelin, so regardless i would at the very least start with michelins recommendations. I run a power one front and a power on the rear and on the road i run 30psi ft and 34psi rear, on the track i lower the rear to 30psi too.
