Missing bolt...

So I get my oil to do my first oil change on my SD.

I read up on helpful tips here (primarily to let the oil drain on the kick stand vs paddock stand and to cover parts in tin foil... fantastic!).

I prepare to replace my oil and notice that I've selected the wrong weight of oil; 20W50 (Motul 7100)... dammit!

I race back to the shop before it closes... in the next town. They take the oil back and I learn that Motul doesn't make fully synth oil in 10W50, only 15 & 20W50. I'm in Canada and the days are still cold and I'm not sure if I want 15 in there for cold starts. I check this site on my phone and find the "great oil debate" re; mineral, semi synth, fully synth, and in what weight and what brand. Screw it, for this change I'll stick with the 10W50 and put Motul 5100 semi synth in.

I get home and as I'm fiddling with the bike and filling the oil (this after replacing the oil site tube with some clear, more flexible line), I notice a spot that looks like it should have a bolt in it... an engine mounting bolt!

What the hell??!!

Does anyone know the size and strength of this bolt so I can try to pick one up and the local hardware store vs. ordering from KTM?

Thanks.

looks like the hole where the lower frame slider goes thru... is this a used bike? if so, the former owner may have removed and did not placed the screw back on it.

and that looks like a nasty O2 sensor!

getting rid of them was the best thing i did to my bike to smooth the fueling out.

If that's the lower/front engine mount, the stock bolt that goes there runs all the way through and fastens on the other side. Personally, I would replace it with an OEM bolt before riding. That sucks, sorry it's holding you up.

i was ripping it up on mine the other day, and when i came out of the store i noticed the upper bolt in the clutch housing was gone.
i replaced it when i got home (yes i have various sized bolts i buy at random when i am at the KTM dealer for just such situations, sigh...)
and 3 of the remaining ones were lose. i have to go over the whole thing this weekend.

I would not ride without it!
I've just measured my bolt.
It's M10 and the thread part is about 20.5 cm long.
If you can't get any long bolts you could get some M10 threaded rod (22cm long, 8.5inch), 2 washers and 2 bolts.

yeah man, don't ride it without the engine mount properly secured!! that sucks - the previous owner has fooked you over good and proper then.

He's removed the lower crash bungs but not replaced it with the original rod. What a bellend.

if you're getting the frame sliders, they will come with a replacement bolt... if you're around Ottawa, i can lend you the stock bolt (since i have sliders on) untill you have a replacement... eventually i'd like it back, i like to keep my original parts, in case i ever want to put her back to stock, but you can have it for as long as you need it. It's a shame to waste a nice weekend

It is a fairly light weight engine and is just hung off the frame. Check for cracks around the other two mounts. Unless you were jumping or dropping the front end hard I don't think you should have any real problems. If no cracks then all should be OK. If left like that without the front mount for long then eventually the engine would have oval-ed the mounting holes or cracked and broke at the mounts. The bike will probably vibrate less with the third mounting bolt in place.
