Apologies if you feel that you’ve read all this before.

I love my ‘07 Superduke, I’ve had it for two months and cannot fault it. I’ve even lent it to a couple of mates who also love it and want it, reminds me of the old Dr Hook song, ‘When you’re in love with a beautiful woman, you watch your friends.’ Apart from the fact that it’s a bike, and I don’t love it in that way.

Anyway, back to the bike. I have the slip-on Akra Evos and remap, I don’t have the snatchyness at low revs, or stalling issues, I am touching wood, not cloth as I type. I have owned twins for the last six years, so maybe my riding style suits/accommodates the bike. I get around 100 miles to the fuel light giving it rice and about 130 commuting, so generally I’m happy with the economy.

How much will a Power Commander and two cylinder map and or a fancy air filter cost me? Answers in £s and new pence, £ s d, or guineas would be helpful. Has anyone had the Akra Evo slip-ons and map and gone the above route, did it make any noticeable difference to the power or economy of the bike? I guess all I want is a reasonable gain in power for VFM. (Value For Money).

Yours 'In Rock'

Benters, look.... I am not the authority on this by far, here is my logic in this subject, It is a crap shoot, a gamble.

I have put many, many hours of hard brain bleeding thought into what you pose here today,

When you remove the o2 or lambada sensors you shut down the fashion in which the ecu was designed to control the air to fuel mixture of it.

this is according to ktm's logic, so it is a prudent thing to think hard on yer prospect. there are many things that are being assumed here and not proven.

I believe that the fuel management on these bike is mis-managed to start with. then for us to alter them is only to gain power.

but I think there are sacrifices that are made in the process that should be considered. Quality of air in the atmosphere is a consideration.

especially if one has a stink on thare backs all the time. Some people will say I am a puss for even mentioning this subject.

I go buy $1200.00 leathers to have them smell like petrol after one track day... WTF.

Get a Power Commander and custom map, or some other proper remap you can read about on here. You won't be sorry. The KTM akro excuse for a remap is shite.

Lambda sensors are purely fitted for emission control. Most people here greatly over estimate how much they adjust your fueling and exactly how well they do it. If the base map isn't right then the lambda sensors are as good as useless anyway. Which is why most people find the akro map to be shite, especially under 4500rpm.

Power commander £180 (from ebay bombaybusa USA)
Air filter £60
Dyno run to check fueling £30

The look on your mates faces when they see the flames.............priceless.

Hope that helps.

PC3 + proper map - yes, though the power gain might not be huge, depends how your fueling is now. if it's sh*t, you'll see gains, if it's good, well, not as much.
now filter? not too sure, there was some testing done last year, that showed that many bikes, cbr1000rr for one (that's what i had at the time, so that's all i cared) actually lost power with 'performance' filters... i don't know about DNA, they tested K&N, BMC and something else. BMC added bit of power, but let a lot of dust into the air box (and engine ultimately), and often fell apert, feeding chunks of orange plastic into your FI...

Filters marked "for race use only" in general are less good for your engine (letting dust in), but allow more flow (hence more power with proper map); also they are intended to be cleaned very often (in racing you'd do that after every race)
you decide, but power gain from filter alone can't be too much, and as soon as it's dirty, all the gains are gone. you do save money in the long run, sine you wash it and re-use, instead having to buy a new one.
