New Akrapovic "Evolution" cans & headers

I admit i'm pretty upset about not having this option when i bought the original Akras... these new ones are shorter (better looks IMO) and you can order matching titanium headers which i suppose means more power

does anyone else share my pain? maybe i can sell my akras and get the new system, will have to ask my dealer if they require a new remap or if i can just slip them on , and whether they have a power curve better than mine...

prices are a bit steep, 800 GBP for the cans and 865 GBP for the titanium headers... 1665 GBP or 2426 euros

thoughts?

The full system also saves over 9kg off the original
Thats only £185 per kilo

dirt cheap

has anyone weighed the original exhaust vs. the "normal" Akra cans?
My original cans are still at my dealer, but the bike felt 10 kilos lighter after
installing the Akras

These babies are defenetly going on my orange SD. A lot more money but I thing its worth the price both for looks and power

I asked ktm-somer over the holidays about the remap question, here is their helpful (and very prompt) answer:

here is last information: New 990 SD FULL system will need a special mapping, mfg. ktm is testing last weeks and months if known akra mapping (for slip on) OR a new mapping will give better results (for full systems).

at time of delivery of full system this information and if necessary new mapping is available.

PS: Cost of full system is reduced if stainless steel header pipes are used. if interested have a look to our new sommer special catalogue, but sorry - all in german language.

best regards

Hi Finnster,

What are those tyres you are running? Thet don't look like the stock Diablo's, are they any good? has anyone else got any recomendations? I am happy with the stock tyres, but interested in peoples opinion

Still not too sure about those . They look too big for the bike if you know what i mean.

I am hoping to get a price soon for the Lavizzari exhaust that can be seen on the pics of the White SD in the other thread.

yaeh, i know what you mean about looking too big... seems their height is bigger than the standard akras i've got on my SD, or maybe mine look smaller to me because the carbon heat shields somehow "break" the long metal cannisters

I must post some pics of the GPR cans.

I think they suit the bike really well.

Hi, I put mine on the dyno last week, only mods are Akro's and fuel map.

Max power is 121BHP, and 75 LBS of torque, fueling was pretty much perfect, with a nice flat torgue curve, making 60 FT/LBS at around 3,500 RPM, with max torque at 7,000 ish

Hey all.

Finally remembered my password !

Just in case you are interested...

http://homepage.mac.com/hjworton/PhotoAlbum23.html

The bike was dyno'd at 122bhp by Rich at Powerhouse in Ashford - steel headers not the Ti sadly. That would've been overkill.....

Had an issue with the fule map for the evos. The map was apparently 'thrown out' by the ECU. Had to take the bike back in to sort it. Seemed to be faster with the wrong map - maybe I imagined it. It popped and banged on the overrun with the wrong map in but the proper one has made that pleasure disappear. Shame. It sounded awesome.

Muchomojo,

Great looking SD!

How did you know the ECU threw out the Evo map...did you get a FI light indicator on the dash or did the bike just start running different?

The reason I ask is because I had to ship my ECU to Europe for the Evo map (Im in the U.S.) and I would hate to have to go through all that again. It seems strange that the ECU would kick it out. Thanks for any info you can add.

Hi Muchomojo!

Nice to see you got those EVO pipes you sought. (SG72 on the MCN site)
And with nice power gains.

Notice you also have the Single seat cowl. (Not as advertised in the KTM brochure!)

Will need to take a Hacksaw to those P/Pegs though .

Sawed mine off and kept the mountings for rigidity.( Pics on "Carbon Tank" Topic).

Great to see you managed to find this slightly more livelier Forum.

Checking out those wheel stripes BTW.

Cheers!

Hi To all from the MCN forum. Its great to finally find a SD specific forum.

With the Remap ECU issue: I had taken the bike home and was happy with it when the shop (Powerhouse, Ashford, Kent) rang and said that another SD they were fitting the system to had rejected the map(his words - I don't know how this manifested itself). I think maybe Vinnie M on this site is that other SD - its a Black one ?. Anyway, I brought the bike back in and they sorted it while I waited. It had been poipping and banging on the overrun but the right map stops this, sadly.

Just a question for anybody with the evo system:

After I had it fitted, for a couple of days, it made the bike feel smooth and seemed to cure the notorious snatchy throttle action at low revs. Then Powerhouse(my local dealer who fitted the system) got back in touch saying that another customers bike(Vinnie M on here, I think) had 'chucked out' the new fuel map. I took my bike back and they found my bike had dome the same. He sorted it out and everything was fine.

Well, maybe not. The bike is popping and banging, whereas when the 'new' evo map was installed, this did not happen. The snatchy throttle seems to have returned also. I am also finding the bike cutting out again like it did when it was new. Has anybody else experienced any of this ? Wanna check before I go back to the shop.

Is there a way to test your ECU after the re-map to verify that the new map is there??
