Dunlop Sportmax D208. Is it normal for the rear to wear that fast?

So many variables; rider weight, pillion, throttle application, tyre pressures, road surface, trackdays or not....

It could easily be finished in that distance.

My OEM Dunlop was very well done at 2,000 of street use - mostly fun but also some commuting. 2CTs seem to go as fast.

No track days,(yet) no passengers, various road surfaces, 225lbs. and I probably do ride fairly hard. I've had a lot of bikes/tyres and this one went out the quickest. So what do you guys think. 2CT's or M3's? Would you leave the front Dunlop?

I wouldn't mix tyres. I switched to 2CTs even though my OEM Dunlop front was still good and have been happy, but I'm not skilled enough to push tyres hard enough to test their outside limits. I have BT016s on the way to try. Others have posted being very happy with the M3s. There are several tyre threads on here with lots of opinions, and a poll seemed to put most people using Pirelli. Many think the Dunlops are not so good in the wet.

By the way, I really like the roads in your state.

Thanks of the info. You guys should have some good roads in TN as well?

Some, but the best ones I've found are those that connect directly to NC roads!

2CTs vs Metzeler M3s.......

.....I was running M3s, great tyres, very confidence inspiring, great in the wet and highly recommend them.

I had to switch to 2CTs as I destroyed a rear on tour in France and they didn't have Metzelers in the shop. So far the 2CTs are as confidence inspiring as the M3s, in fact the profile makes the bike a little keener to tip in if anything. However, they are NOT as sticky on the centreband as the M3s, the symptom being the rear locks up that bit easier under downshifts, specially on track. Tonnes of grip on the sides though and was more than enough tyre for me on the bends at Brands Hatch.

When I destroy this rear 2CT I'll stick another on it, then when the front is done in aswell I'll think again. If the 2CTs last significantly longer than the M3s then I'll keep with the 2CTs, but if they wear out at the same speed I'll go back to M3s without any hesitation.
