Another angle... Is ther any clue that points to the LC8 motor having a problem with it's oil temperature??...

They've been around a few years, in various models, tested long term by all sorts of mags, ridden and raced by thousands of owners etc. What kind of ghost hunt is this then?

Ok, sorry. Let me clearify....the horz. bars on the dash reach their max.
and start to flash. So I guess its the 'cooling liquid' temp and light NOT
the oil light that flashes. Until now I thought those bars were for the oil temp.

Say all,

The oil light flicker, IS caused by low oil pressure, that is directly influenced by high oil temperature. but any flicker at all ...would be cause for me to run a thorough oil pressure test to make sure it falls within factory specs.

This is somewhat of a problem with the LC8 engine. Without a traditional oil cooler like most sportbikes where the cooling liquid cools the oil as it passes through the oil filter, the oil in the LC8 can get very hot and thin to the point where the low oil pressure light will come on at an idle. In this case, the oil light can be influenced by oil temp. Normally just blipping the throttle will shut the light off otherwise you must let the oil cool down. As some have pointed out the tank wraps around the front cylinder and sits directly above the exhaust pipe which doesn't help. For me, oil temps are not a problem where I ride and the city I live in but I can see where it would be a problem in other places.

Within 6 months somebody here will have fitted and aftermarket oil cooler to this machine. I think that would be easier than welding fins to the tank. Just don't put it down behind the front tyre, a la MV Augusta Brutale, where it's just begging for a stone to ping it.

If I can ever get enough time away from work, it may be me. Of course, that ranks right up there with the odds that I'll see KTM aftermarket parts in my lifetime...
