I may get in some trouble for this,,,, I have changed my oil and filter about 10 times between my 2 ktm's 07 SD,, 06 SM.

I had never replaced any o-rings or gaskets. nothing has ever leaked. I take the plug out of the bottom of the engine, then I drain the oil tank,

then the oil filter using a automobile windshield wiper thin metal strip with a 90 degree bend on the end that is only about 1/16th of an inch long.

then I take out the screen, clean and re-install,inspect any metal shavings, clean the 2 magnets with compressed air.

reassemble, refill the oil tank, start the engine for 15-20 min's. kill the engine , wait 5 min's and then usually add one more litre,

restart ...run for 5 min, recheck the oil level and top off as per to sight glass tube in oil tank.

1 mile = 1.609 344 kilometer, Limeyduffa....I am a real stickler on the lenth of time and miles on my engine oil changes.

My oil always looks new, (light in color), I change my filter too. I go anywhere from 1500 miles to 2500 miles,

so an in the middle would be 2000 miles is about average for my rule of thumb oil changes (for street riding),

It all depends what I am doing. If I go to the racetrack I go 500 miles or one weekend of track days and just change the oil only,

but then I change the filter at another 1000 miles, (with new oil) sorry i ramble on so, but in my mind this is how it works.

I've always changed the gaskets and seals when I did an oil change. It's just cheap insurance. Sure you can get away with it, right up until the point that you don't. Where will you be when that happens? Thats why I do it.

Turtle, don't get me wrong,,, I would love to do things all up and up, but when I go to my local ktm dealer they seem

to be mentally challenged when face with the prospect of getting me an oil filter, like the part # is hard to get?

but you my man have restored my faith in humanity, I will go thare and aske for the oil change kit,

they will shake at the prospect of finding all of those part #'s and I will tell them that turtle from Spokane has sent me......hehe

CU-SEAL RING ... standard copper washers like you get at hardware stores, 12mm and 22mm.

"gasket".....ah! must be this:

GASKET FOR OIL FILTER HNBR

...the one for the oil tank screen. Is that the green o-ring?
I thought I'd bought a couple of all of them so I could get the sizes, but I didn't get that one, maybe it was too expensive. Not specified as an ordinary / DIN o-ring. But joe's is ok and he changes his oil a lot.

wrt to that...yes, replacing the copper seals and the o-rings is "cheap insurance" / good practise, but if you change your oil very often like I do, and you pay the KTM price - like 10x the normal price for a copper washer or an o-ring, and you use expensive oil, it is not cheap. And that seal for the tank screen filter..well, no ways does that need changing every few thousand km.

Here are some of the o-rings and copper seals that might be useful, that I just copied.

oil engine drain plug seal : CU-SEAL RING DIN7603 22x27x2
oil tank drain plug seal : CU-SEAL RING DIN7603 12x18x1.5
oil filter cover seal : O-RING 40X2,50 NBR 70
oil level sight tube seals : CU-SEAL RING DIN7603 8X12X1
gear position sensor seal : O-RING 27,5X2,5 NBR
brake line banjo seals : CU-SEAL RING DIN7603 10x16x1
water pump tube seals : O-RING 25X3 NBR 70 (2)
THERMOSWITCH LC8 102DG seal : O-RING 17X1,5 NB75

I'm going to go to an o-ring supplier and get a few of the o-rings. NBR or Viton, as lon g as they're not cheap chinese ones.
The copper washers, I've got all except the 22mm for the engine drain plug - but again, I've changed the oil in my Pulsar about 6 times in about 4000 km and the aluminium drain plug seal doesn't leak.
