Oil Top Off

I need to top off my oil. The manual says 0.3 liters is the volume between the min and max marks on the sight tube. Anyone know if that is correct?

There was a thread on this earlier but I can't find it.

Well, I wish I could provide more accurate info for you but here is all I have experience with at this point. I got mine from the dealer and checked everything over before taking off for a ride. The oil was at the min marker on the tube. I didn't have an accurate way to measure the dose (oil bottle had no markings) so I just did my best guesstimate. Did a quick pour, checked, still low, quick pour, checked, still low, poured twice as long as the first two, checked, at the max mark. Made me a little speculative about how accurate that tube is. But, I can't say I was in an ideal environment to really judge (ground may not have been as level as needed, no measuring cup, first time checking the oil on the Duke, etc.) I really don't feel I poured in .3 liters (.2?) but I can't say for sure how much. So, I'd say if you're at the min mark now measure half .3 first and add it and check. See where you are at and take it from there.

Cool. Thanks for the thoughts. I'll try .15 and see where it gets me.

and on level ground with the bike standing upright, not on it's stand.

I did mine yesterday actually, it was about a 1/4 the way up the tube and about 175ml took it to max.

Be patient topping up, dont over fill. make sure your oil filer cap is on tight afterwards, mine gets forced out at high revs if it's not on nice n tight.

hmm, mine pops more when it's really hot from a hard ride so maybe yours is getting hot with less oil...

I finally did my own oil change the other day...what a chore compared to a basic Japanese bike...but a very thorough (complex, Germanic) job at ensuring the oil stays clean...all those traps and filters...I put in a permanent stainless filter and 3 litres of the recommended expensive oil...but it still only reads minimum in that little plastic tube...I know I put in 3 litres..should I add a bit more?..or just accept that the little clear oil tube may not be all that accurate?
