Open (really open) pipes

I really searched, but couldn't find anything definite regarding straight-through pipes (one of my search entries).

I have an engineering buddy who said he could make up a y-connector and oval pipes in stainless, to mimic the standard pipe shape. No expansion box, no baffles, nothing - Just straight through all the way to the exhaust valves

I know it'll be stinking loud, but in South Africa having a bike like the SD already puts me in 'left-field' so the noise isn't a problem. Our law enforcement is quite lax (lazy) too... I just want something completely different, and if I don't like, I'll just put the standard cans back on...

Besides needing a PC3 and custom map (a given), can this result in any problems mechanically (valves, heat etc)? Suggestions in pipe shape to create a deeper, more rumbly sound?

I was having this urge to take on the big one......I will give this Idea, and this up front, a forum member here offered the stock header pipe to me but we never spoke of the particulars, I was going to take a stock header pipe and make it look like the RC8, or Venom pipe.....straight through,,, motorcycle manufacturers used to do this sort of thing long ago.....scrambler was what one was called too. I have given up the notion of this cos of money and other "real" mechanical things I need to take care of first, but if you try this or something else, I would like to see the results. You would want to cut the pipe in 2 places, take the J shaped pipe and turn it out to the side or slightly have a turn upward, then when you have the angle of the outlet correct, mark it with a permanent marker take it to the welder, mount it up wallah, loud as the dickens pipe, (underbike) a minimalist dream. other than the noise, more than likely too loud.

Someone on here (Lockers maybe?) had done some testing with this and found a drop in power, seems the SD needs an amount of 'back preasure' from the exhaust to work at it's best.

Thanks Mr. F, hopefully he'll add to the thread so I can get some more info before trying this...

The loudness I'm really not bothered with (the rest of my riding group might be ). Also not bothered with more power, but less will be a big no no so more research required.

I actually want straight up stainless piping, not the std pipes gutted. Weight loss, noise and looks are the priority...
