Power Commander fitted......Road test.

Just had my first ride of the bike since I had the power commander fitted last Friday, and I'm FRIKIN' FREEZIN!!!! The things I do for you lot. Anyway, I have to report it's all good! No snatchiness low down, no peaks troughs or flat spots, the bike now pulls any speed in any gear without any complaints. I havn't ridden the bike for 4 or 5 weeks, and we all know it's very easy to fool yourself something is better when you've just laid out a load of cash, but I genuinly feel the mid to top end has a definate improvement. It may only be the crisp throttle response is making it feel better, but who cares! better is better in my book, and if it feels better then thats good enough for me. Was it worth it? Well, for cleaning up the bottom end that would have been good enough, but the extra bonus of clean throttle response everywhere else means I have to say yes.

Most excellent,

that is what I expected based on doing the same thing on an Aprilia rsvr! We all need PCs now...Group buy anybody?

Dr F, you struck another one of my sensetive spots!

Yes it is not the power or the Dyno graph that shows how the bike behaves..it is all about hte ride. The delivery of the power and the de/acceleration of the power delivery which you feel (ie how fast the power increases). Also, the graphs usually show engine max delivery... but we ride with partial throttle. These are things that the dynos and graphs and manufacturers cannot show.

This is great news - the snatchiness and (relatively) 'crappy' bottom end is my issue with the SD. I will be looking into the mapping early next year... your report has given me a little more hope. Obviously there are still mapping benefits to be had that the O2 sensors cannot adjust for.

Thank you Dr F for you 'pain' in the testride.

They are based in preston....... been thinking of taking mine up to get a map sorted for the leo vinci's that i have...... although for another reason its not rideable in this crap weather at the moment so without the use of a van or trailer i might have to wait a while yet

As a nipper I always wanted an H2 750 triple. So, I thought (last year), I might as well get one now I have a few bob put away.....so I did.

It was immaculate........

Image

Well. It looked immaculate, but having been riding bikes since I was 14, I just didn't notice how much they've moved on.

Now, don't get me wrong, the H2 was completely restored and ran and handled like new, but it was absolutely horrid to ride....

No power
Crap handling
Brakes.... what brakes?

It did sound gorgeous though and produced a lovely blue haze that only a finely tuned 2 stroke (or a knackered Transit van) can muster up

Anyway, having ridden it and then scared myself sh1tless I was more than chuffed when a bloke rang me up out of the blue wanting to buy it.

Lesson learned. Nostalgia is great but leave it where it belongs - in the past

That's what i thought Max.

Hmmmmmm

Ah! Just realised I misread this

The first run was a base map, nothing fitted, just as standard. This showed 120.78 bhp and max torque of 73.14. They were good curves but the KTM map has it running slightly lean at all RPM. All in all, they did more than 50 runs, but these are the important ones.
With the PC fitted and mapped, baffles in, 124.29 bhp max torque 75.98. Baffles out only .91 bhp increase at peak power, 125.20 bhp max torque 76.84.

from Dr F's other post. He's comparing two runs, BOTH of which have the akras fitted, one with PC and filter one without. I thought the bit in bold meant standard bike, no exhaust.

i've just fitted my akra evo's and am well pleased with them. my question is why do you have a power commander fitted if you have the akrapovic map for the evos downloaded onto your bikes ecu? is the akrapovic map not any good? i live about 20mins from HM Racing in kent, so might pop in there when the weather cheers itself up a bit. i'm getting a bit confused with all the different maps and modules as to which one is best, any info would be welcome. Regarding PC and RB - what they do is they adjust what the injectors squirt. This is done by setting a new variable + or - the ECU setting at different situtations. Eg, rpm and throttle position.

This means that you can adjust the result in a finer way, using the standard ECU map. It is like putting a more granular map on top of the existing map.

What these modules do is give you an easy adjustment and more flexible adjustment at this granular level. Which means your dyno gains will be granular / minor.

Now the exceptions are if your ECU map is realy out.. depending on the bike, mods, altitude levels etc.. you may have a large scope to improve your power. This is most prominent if you have a closed loop ECU (like most bikes without EG sensors)... even these are sometimes closed loop for most of the fuel range.

What you do gain... which you cannot see on the dyno is the 'smoothness'. The snatchiness... and more importantly the delivery is cleaner. What you also get is the smoothness as part and cruising throttle. Now when you are going hard - these are the things that ammatures like 'us' gain most from.

As with what Dr F is saying - is that the top end power is used rarely by few of us...but the hp increases and smoothness and delivery are most noticable. I completely concure from my experience and R1 with PC.
