Martin, wherever you install the PC the earth lead is on the plug end of the cable so will need earthing at or near that point. As you know, the book says run it to the battery negative but IMO that runs too close to the front header for comfort.
Bear in mind that it will need to be accessible to load a trim/tweak the settings (although once fitted and programmed you can leave it alone).
