Powering camera from bike

Help!

I have bought a Panasonic SDR-SW10 video recorder to mount on the bike.

I’ve just bought a RAM mount system to mount it to the handlebars (going touring and need a tank bag so tank mounting was out of the question).

So I now need to hook it up to power it from the bike (battery only lasts an hour and a bit).

So, how do I do this? I’m a complete beginner at this sort of thing. I assume I need some sort of regulator to step the voltage down from the 12v on the bike to the 5v supply the camera needs – anyone have any idea where I’d get such a thing? Maplins confuses me!

Then once I have the leads etc I need, where is best to take the power from? From the battery? Or from somewhere else? I’m happy to have it power off when I switch the bike off. The less wiring and gizmos I have to use the better!

Thanks on advance!

Panasonic should have a car charger and/or power supply for the camera. you'll need one (if it didn't already come with it). then you'll need to make a power outlet (cig. lighter outlet) on the bike... there are few threads on the topic, i think you can get a ready kit for that...

Toby,

I fitted a socket on my dash in to power the satnav and radar jammer, er, I mean detector.

They also do a cigar lead version but it's a bit too big to drill into the dash.

Edited to say...

Oh yeah, you need a regulated 12V supply. How handy are you with a multi meter? There's a fused wire under the seat you can tap into for power. If you're stuck I can check how I wired mine and let you know.

Fantastic! Are they all 12v and regulated? Many thanks for the tip fella!
