Question: Fuel tank vent pipe?

Right. just wondering if anyone knows how the fuel tank vent pipe should be routed/connected?
Also there is a pipe at the front of the tank and a connection at the rear of the tank with no pipe, should the front pipe be connected to the rear fitting. can anyone help?
I have a 2009 model.
