Dr F
I fancied a stone guard for the radiator, for obvious reasons, but couldn't bring myself to fit/pay for one of those hideous stainless jobbies. I wanted something unobtrusive, so you can barely tell it's there, and easy to clean. So, onto god ol' ebay and scored myself a sheet of plastic mesh, 4mm holes, 1000mm x 500mm (enough for 3 sd radiator covers) for £7 + £3 post. You can get black aluminium mesh, but I thought that it may rub off the paint on the radiator over time, plus, it's anodised black, so when you cut it you expose the aluminium which will corrode and soon look tatty. The plastic stuff cuts easy with scissors, I cut two 'lugs' on the bottom which I used to mount with the existing bolts, and threaded two thin cable/zip ties around the top radiator brackets and through the mesh to secure at the top. By cutting it to the exact width of the radiator, the radiator end caps retain the mesh down the sides and hide the edges leaving a nice neat job. This one is the first atempt, I may try making another with something a little neater around the bottom mounting bolts. I've ridden it, and not noticed any increase in temp or the fan cutting in more than usual, so I guess it's a success, and for £3.33p you can't go wrong
