Rear Spring Rating

As I ride 2 up all the time I was also going to upgrade my rear spring.

The 2005/6 SD has a 160/185 spring, the 2007 SD has 170/185 spring, the parts catologue also shows a 180/185 spring.

I know what the /185 is, the spring length, and the pre number refers to a weight setting of some sort, but what exactly does the 1st number mean, is it as simple as maximum weight limit

And how do I work out which repelacement spring I need
