rear sprocket replacement question

i ordered a new chain & sprocket set. i also ordered new nuts and bolts from KTM for the sprocket. the new bolts have a band of yellow around the threads.
is that some kind of thread locker? is it a rust preventative? im not sure if i should clean it off (thats my inclination, to clean it of and use locktite) or whether its there for a reason.
you guys have any idea on what its there for? and which loctite would you use, im thinking blue?

No idea what the yellow stuff is, but you want to use the BLUE threadlocker as the RED is permanent and designed to NOT be removed. RED almost always results in broken bolts...

For our purposes always use BLUE..

It is thread locker.

Alrighty then... Since it already has threadlocker on it I would assume that the manufacturer knows what they are doing so I would go ahead and use whatever yellow stuff they have slathered on your threads and forego the blue stuff...

Yep... And if you aren't comfortable with that, brush all of it off with a bristle brush, apply blue and then assemble everything..

Given the experience of some with sprocket carrier bolts coming loose and gouging swingarms, I think I'd clean them and use blue loctite.

Also whilst you are at it and everything is clean and new - put a dab of paint on the bolt/nut so that you can easily see if they start comimg loose later on

It is in fact thread locker. Several Mil-Spec bolts come with that material applied to the threads by the bolt manufactures. It fills the air gap between the Major and Minor diameters and the unloaded side of the pitch diameter of the mating thread creating a locking seal. It speads as you screw them together.

Having said that you can apply blue Loctite to the threads as well without a problem.
