Here we go Dan. First of all, turn the needle round with your finger, past the max rpm, it should stay there, put a pencil mark on the edge of the housing so you know where it was when you remove it. If you try to remove the needle when it up against the stop pin at '0' rpm, the spindle will turn backwards and you will have no idea where to refit the needle. Take piece of thin card or folded over paper, tear it, and slip it over the spindle under the needle, this will protect the clock when you warm the needle with a hair dryer. BE CAREFULL NOT TO DAMAGE THE STOP NEEDLE ESPECIALY WHEN YOU REMOVE IT!!! Try warming the needle to different heats, I used the tool in the photo to gently lever the needle off, it's what I use to remove trim plugs in car door panels etc, but you could bend an old screwdriver, or just go steady with you fingers. If it won't budge, warm it up a little more and use a rocking motion to get it to move.
Once the needle has started to move, check the needle against your mark to make sure it still lines up, then pull it off completly trying not to turn it as you do, this will ensure it goes back on in the same place. The rest is easy, fit the dial, replace the screws, then put the needle back on in the right place, lining it up with the mark. Don't push it on too far or it will rub on the face and not work. Turn the needle back to the stop with your finger. Then stand back and admire your handywork and the lack of gay disco clocks! Piece of pi**
