SD-R...Steering damperner recall.

Just took my SD-R in for its first service and when I went to pick it up I found that they had taken the steering dampener removed as they'd just been notified by KTM that 4 people(worldwide) have had the dampeners bracket brake and that it's now a genuine hazard.
Biggest issue I have is that KTM haven't even developed the replacement bracket as yet which sucks arse.
Anybody....??

If anybody else can confirm/heard of it... that's all.

LOL! Exactly what I've thought before. I mean why hide such a mean looking steering dampener?

Oh well, can see it easy now...on the dealership's work bench
That would explain why the bracket has been backorder for ever with no ETA.

Anybody has the exact measurements of this bracket so we can machine our own?
Shall go to the shop tomorrow and measure it up mate.
i've had no notification from dealer or KTM, dised the 2nd/ 3rd sensor, niiiiiiiiiiiiiice

Could someone PLEASE post up pic's of the damper bracket from different angles. I have already bought the stinking damper for $500+ and now find out the bracket that's been back-ordered for months will probably be another year. IF someone has pic's, I can get the mounting hardware made myself. PIC PLEEEAAAASSSEEEEE. Thanks
Just thought, may be the bracket on the body of the damper itself, its only a stock WP item though !
Try www.demon-tweeks.co.uk or www.harris-perfomance.com
Spoken to my dealer 2 mins ago, 3 failures all in Japan but he has no info on which part has failed
The bracket that holds the damper snapped in half on mine
Phone call today my new bracket is in being fitted next Monday

good quick service me thinks

sounds like my world.....thought you were on the other side o the pond?
The SDR recall is just hitting the USA. There are none or very few SDR's on the roads in the USA and I am positive this is why the parts have been on BO for those of us that want to add it to our SD's.

Personal opinion, but I found that the steering was quicker and the handling more fun (Closer to the 990 demo I test rode) without the damper. Not sure if I would put it back on now, except for the fact that it looks so cool.
1st trackday on Saturday, so may have a change of mind to report after that.

so where is the problem?

I dunno ? But if I were a guesser,,, I would say in the thinest part of that little

spindly alloy arm there,, looks very weak, & under engineered to me? This

appears to be an oversight ? Looks like it could use 2 arms rather than 1 ?

or a continuous one that copy's the clamp? It brakes at the top bolt hole?

Good man...
Hey Andy, The steering damper malfunction is a dead issue in here, as far as I know there has been no word as to when the KTM will finally address this, hard for me to believe personally cos it is the sort of thing that could have a negative result in injury, and probably already has.

cheers,

joe
Hi joe im getting used to the bike without it handles real well but the steering is very sensative and you get that unerving feeling she could get nasty, lets hope they sort something soon. andy

Rich, you are correct about DMNTD he rides in a 3rd world country,(practically)
from what he has told me, broken pavement is the norm,
but he is a mad man like meself,
I just wish there was a land bridge so I could come and see you all.
We do have airports now days....gone really up market!
Bring ya machine over...I can assure you that you would not regret it!

we be two of a kind my man, you being the one who keeps yelling at me,

then me being the one that says calm down my man.
Joe, Thanks for that...the only problem is that DMNTD and I both live in the same 3rd World Country!

And what the hell is a pavement?

Wellllllllllll, it's Xmas in January..........I received my backorder damper parts. I'm still holding them in my hand to make sure I truly beleive I received them.
All my steering damper parts arrived last week
My steering damper parts arrived at my dealers just before xmas,i got the call to say they were ready for collection, i arrived only to find the damper and the new bracket and also the new fork leg bracket there but without any nuts and bolts to fit them .
I was well pissed off having travelled a total of 60 miles for f#ck all, needless to say i spent naff all on KTM goodie's as xmas presents.I was going to refit the damper and fork leg brackets myself but decided to let KTM earn their keep and refitt it for me as it was a recall,so today i dropped my bike off in my van,i'm told it will be ready tuesday,we'll see !
I love my bike and reckon it's one of the best if not THE BEST bike's i've ever owned but am really getting pissed off with the aftersale's service / parts availability provided by KTM to the extent that i haven't ordered the new exc 450 enduro bike i was going to treat myself to,instead i'll keep my xr 400 Honda for which i never have hassle getting stuff for.

My bracket broke! The original one that is....

I was being a bit naughty - so I still had it on waiting for the recall...

Any way it broke and jammed my steering on hard lock!!!

Disaster was narrowly averted - called my dealer and two days later they fitted it up while I waited...
