Spark plugged

Quick novice question... I'm doing a service before summer gets started and, among other things, I wanted to pop new spark plugs in - the manual suggests this is a job best left to a 'qualified KTM mechanic" (so, not Laguna then??) is this right? Looks simple enough to me, presumably access to the front cylinder is easy enough with the tank off (I'm changing the air filter too) - is there something I've missed?

Also - anyone here going to this years TT?

You should be able to take it on. Of course KTM wants to generate revenue for its stealers ...

You will need a thin walled plug socket.

pop a bit of card from the plug box in the socket and it will retain the plug.

Big thanks for that, I think the LC8 manual I've downloaded may be pre fuel-injection and suggests it might be harder to access the plugs(?)
The regular service manual tells you to take it to a garage!

The front one needs the std airbox to be removed.

Just a arm chair thought here 'cause it' rainin' cats and dogs and I just got in from a short ride....Modern day motor bikes really don't reqiure new plugs every year.....just my free advice. Check with the owners manual and my bet is you are under the recomended mileage to replace the plugs. You might be better off changing the brakes and clutch fluids and lubing the misc. items.

Can someone from the states confirm what socket works on the spark plug with the 2008superduke R ? I am going to be into the motor soon and wanted to change the plugs while there I would like to avoid running all over town trying 50 different sockets.
Thin walled 16mm deep socket will work? Pete the picture in your link shows 16mm but the description says 10mm what is the 10mm dimension for? Why is the plug wrench $66.00 from ktmtwins? WTF?
S0 just some confirmation on what brand/size works from those that have used it would be great. Thanks.

Don't spark plug sockets have a different measurement to standard sockets?? Or am I imaging it (yeah I rolled a fatty but it is Easter holiday! )

If you have a SDR you will have to remove the shock at the top mount to get the rear coil out (yes I know that is insane) Changing plugs with standard airbox is a pain rather than a complicated job. Download the workshop manual. All explained in there

Klick - that reminds me that you mentioned the starter motor o-ring failure as a 'common' problem - have not found any threads here on this (using search or view new posts........) - have just stripped down as far as removing lower part of OE airbox and without removing coolant pipes starter motor, etc, there's no obvious signs of oil around the end of the starter motor/ rear of generator cover - can you point me at relevant link(s) - outer generator cover etc is covered in oil and can find no obvious source.

I was told it was a known issue for oil leaks by my stealer when I was trying to work out where mine was leaking from. Its funny as when I told my stealer that leaking base gaskets were a issue on here they said they'd never come across one.

So £2.28 wasted on a starter motor new o-ring.............have the leaking rear cylinder base gasket though.
