Spot the Difference

Got hold of another tank for my 06 model that Im thinking of painting white and while comparing the two I noticed that there is no place for the fuel gauge, any ideas why this is a different tank? There is not even a cut out for it. It fits the bike nicely though. One more thing of note there is approximately 1lt of fuel stored in the wings that cant be acessed due to a flat piece (baffle) above the fuel pump, so this turns a already small tank into something worse.
