Squishy Sound & Leak

On the way to work this morn I was rolling up to a light (red) and did a quick stop without the foot down - aka Californa Stop - as the bike came to almost a complete stop I was about to let the clutch out and it died. So I have to wait for traffic now...I restart and the clutch feels, just funny. Go to take off and it lurches and dies again. I scoot it around the corner up against the curb and finally get it started. On the way home similar happened. I checked it out and here's the news:

Clutch feels stiff and there's a squishing (air/fluid) sound coming from down low when I engage the clutch. I look down there and visible drops leaking out every time too...ack!!! Check the buildup on the sidestand and pooled fluid barely reflecting on the bottom of sidestand. Coming out under the countershaft sprocket casing right above the stand..

(pay no attention to the stains under...all old from auto)

If its clutch fluid then your master cylinder is on its last legs (a known week point on early SD`s)

Or if its engine oil then your clutch release rod bearing is probly leaking!

Both easy jobs to do, if its the bearing its a £2 part and half hour job, if its the clutch master cylinder then its more expensive (see the `how to` section as Weeksy did a write up on it there!

T Man, If you look in the picture you took and you see the piece that says ktm on it, that is the piece that has gone bad, I call it "clutch slave cylinder".

It is one of the easiest repairs you can make, take the (2) 10 MM bolts out and replace the cylinder assembly and bleed the air out by......

fill the reservoir,(manufacturer specific fluid), read the top of the R. cap for specifics. Pull the clutch in. open the bleeder zert then do not let the leaver

up until you close the zert, and keep repeating until all the air is released from the bleeder zert. every time you lift the leaver up the master cylinder takes in the fluid.

you will be able to tell when all the air is out by the pressure returning to your clutch leaver and it will be releasing pure fluid, no air bubbles.

+ 1 for Joe, that would be my guess
Tbird the slave cylinder is at your clutch end (not clutch lever), I would think your fluid leak is probably coming from there. You could possibly try to bleed it up as is and look to see if you can see any fluid pushing out around the slave to verify it but ods are its probably just shite itself and you're up for a new one.
