Stalling in Neutral

There's 3 things really - but they could be linked (in)directly?:
1. Slight leak of fluid under the side stand
2. The bike sounds 'weak' on start up
3. Today it started stalling in neutral @ the lights

1. I recently had the clutch slave cylinder replaced so I though it might be the Scottoiler which is located above the side stand. So I let the resevoir run dry but there is still a small bit of liquid gathering at the bottom of the side stand. Read a few post on 'stalling' and in one of them Plipton mentions as a cause. Now that the scottoiler has run dry could this mean that the normal vacuum has now opened up and is no more? Could this be the reason for stalling?

2. I can imagine that the lack of vacuum also cause problems to start up.

3. Again going back to Plipton's previous post - The spigot for the Scottoiler vacuum is located on the right hand side (as suppose to the left hand side referred to in Plip's write up) but I suppose this is the same difference? So this might be the cause why the bike stalls while idling in neutral?

In short I think I know it is linked to the Scottoiler no longer running vacuum so just looking for confirmation... (but I don't understand why it runs fine when first gear is engaged?)
And any ideas as to what the small leak could be? There is no significant drop in clutch fluid or oil levels???

Anyway - thanks for your help!

I had a similar issue up to about two weeks ago - I bought my (06) SD in September and last month it started to stall in neutral at the lights and then at low revs (in 1st) while filtering through traffic.

I had a word with my local friendly KTM dealer who identified it as a bad starter motor clutch or gear or something - a known of issue which has apparently been the subject of an 'unofficial' recall. I say unofficial recall because apparently they are not actually recalling anything, but rather waiting for the problems to turn up at the dealers.

Anyway, they had a listen to the nasty noise that had developed at startup, agreed on the cause and replaced it under warranty, no questions asked. It has been beaut ever since

It might be worth adding that this problem started off as a stalling issuing and then I started having problems starting it - and the nasty noise came as the starting problem got worse.

So, may not be that same issue, but worth checking out as it sounds similiar.....

Hope that helps!

Say Bink, I had a problem with my 07 dieing during stops and sometimes at

speed, I don't actually know what it was but my PC III took care of it,

Treeman had some type of big problem, not sure if it was dieing or not?

KTM offers a stand switch by-pass kit? Hummm, wonder why?

Treeman found that the throttle body adjustment fixed his problem.

Mine was the ECU or something related, It has no more problems at all

now, My first advise is to reset your ECU per to forum instruction,

that is a quick easy thing to do, and it truely helped my bike and gave me

confidence in what this SD.Net is all about.

The side stand bypass is for race use. It allows you to completely remove the sidestand and have the bike still operate, otherwise it would stall when you tried to put it in gear

Hi Lockers, as expected the problem was caused by the Sottoiler but only because I had the resevoir run empty. Due to it being empty the lines run dry which effectively elliminated the vacuum required to run the bike properly. (as you set out in your answer)
So I have refilled the resevoir and since then the bike is running & starting as normal again...

Just leaves me to identify this misterious leak - although I have the feeling it might be related to the scottoiler as well (will need to do an close up inspection )

Thanks to the information shared on the board it's all sorted now - It's good to share God Bless the InterWeb

Hey all, Interesting thread, It is hard to believe that an aftermarket oiler

would do this? only reason I say this is cos sometimes when a MC engine dies

it causes an accident, and for something that is added on after the fact, would

pose a serious health issue? dies from a chain oiler, Hummm, not sure how to

take that in.
But Bink I am glad you are ok.
