Starting issue

08 Super Duke, sandard. Yasua (did I spell that right?) battery, it's 2nd battery, is a year and a half old. Bike runs perfect when it runs. today it was 70F, rainy, in my garage. The bike was on the battery Tender 4 days ago. Fresh gas, bike was last ridden 2 weeks ago.

Turn on key, let the bike do it's thing, I can hear the fuel pump. Neutral lamp on. Sidestand up. I don't touch the throttle. I hit the starter for 5 seconds, it spins but does not fire. I did that 5 times before I gave up. Last attempt, it barely turns over. Sniffed tailpipe, faint smell of gas. In disgust and desparation, I plugged in the Battery Tender for less than 20 minutes. It fired right up while the Tender was still plugged in. I can't imagine that the battery was fully recharged in less than 20 minutes after a total of 25 seconds on the starter.

What the hell is going on here?

man, I've stumped everyone on this one.....

I called the dealer that I got the bike from, wanting to talk to my tec, he's a real good guy. But of course, he's changed jobs. So now I'm forced to deal with an unknown guy. He says he'll put it on their computer to diagnose it. I have no codes coming up on my dash. Dealership is 3 hours away, so I don't know wether I'm going to make the trek to diagnose a bike that acts up 5% of the time.

Just a point inthe right direction would be appreciated.
