So I replaced the battery as I was getting the the soft 3.2 dat code

New battery on after charge fired up lovely, left to sit for 8 days tried to start, nearly fired but nothing

Stuck it on charge for ten mins all cool and fired up and went for a ride on Sunday.

3 days later (today weds) went to start and tried to fire but failed, then tried again just click and soft 3.2 again.... I am so pissed with this bike atm nothing seems to help

It's an 07 SD, Ktm alarm, new Yuasa battery

Help please or I am off to cry and set fire to it lol
ktmguy

ktmguy

When I plug charger in it says 13 volts 0.79 -0.80 amps

That's on an oximiser 900

That's from Sunday until weds after a ride on sund, would the alarm be draining it ??? I don't press the fob button when I park up in my shed. It arms it self after a min or two

ps how do you check error codes, it when u press the key fob button then the red lock light on the dash blinks

if so i have 41 fuel pump relay, could this be the problem

on a lighter note tune ecu connected and i have the 611eu0704530 map on it

Ignore the alarm codes for now, when the voltage drops the ecu spits out all possible faults...
Concentrate on the issue with the starting.

Connect a voltmeter to the ACC connector in the headlight, the one that is always ON.

Before turning the key and starting check the voltage, It should be at least 12 V.
Now turn the key but don't start and see what happens it should drop a bit but not much.
Start and again check the voltage, if it drops heaps and the starter motor doesn't crank there are 2 possible issues.
1 the battery is fooked
2 you have a bad connection somewhere on the big battery leads to the starter motor and that could also be the negative.

If the bike starts after charging but not ofter riding it could be a rectifier regulator problem so the batt doesn't charge.
When you get the bike started check the voltage again and it should now be around or over 14 V
If not the regulator/ rectifier or generator is the issue.

Let me know how you go with this and I try to help you further.

Don't loose hope, electricity is like water you just have to find the leak!

cheers ktmguy

Hope this new battery is not fooked

i will see if i can find the acc connector in the headlight, is it the bottom plug i need to check i am sure i can find it on the ktm workshop manual, you might get some pm's lol

its typical none of mine are marked acc1 or acc2.

as you look at it i have on the left side, four plug,

1 x 2pin
1x 2 pin
1x 6 pin
1x6pin

which of these would it be, as if i remember the second one down i am getting a reading of 4.7
Colonel_Klinck

Colonel_Klinck

1 x 2pin 0.0 ign off
1x 2 pin flikers between 4.5 and 8.6
1x 6 pin
1x6pin

1 x 2pin 11.45 ignition on
1x 2 pin 10.58 ignition on
1x 6 pin
1x6pin

taken battery terminals off cleaned them and reattached, like i said new battery 2 weeks ago.
checked fues they seem to be ok
also put the emergency over ride code in the alarm, to deactivate it and still no start, its like it wants to fire but does not if you get me, kinda like a fart i will try to get a video

for a start remove the headlight fuse as that will save your battery on all these attempted starts. Good luck and hope she starts soon!

tbh i've never managed to find the 2x power sources in the headlight mask on my 06. Spent fooking ages trying to spot them and can't for the life of me

if i knew where it was i would, the ktm workshop manual is the worst i have ever seen to find things !!

yeah i am with you on that one klink , no freaking idea, this is getting me down though now

if you cannot find the plug, do not worry, ktmguy was suggesting it because it is easier to access then the battery itself, but you can check the same thing directly on the battery terminals. manual has the values for properly running charging system - section 7.2 (repair, not the owners manual).
from the values you have posted, your battery is pretty discharged... not surprised you cannot start her. since you say that she starts and runs fine after charging, but then cant start after few days of storage, i'd say it is a loss of current somewhere, rather then the charging system or regulator/rectifier. The instructions on how to check for current loss are also in section 7.2 of the repair manual...

well today the bike has been on charge and still no luck, the oximiser has been saying fullcharged 14v but when you go to crank it goes down to 12.4 then starts to build back up again after a few minutes.

how can a battery thats only been on two weeks be fooked already :S

so anyway i thought i would look at the fuses again whilst ignition was on and off

Ignition OFF

No 1 ignition - 13.53 v
No 2 Lights - 0v
No 3 horn, brake light - 0v
No 4 Fuel pump - 0v
No 5 Fan 13.55v
No 6 Clock - 13.55v
No 7 Main relay 13.55v
No 8 ACC1 for attachments( switched with ignition) 13.55v
No 9 ACC2 for attachments(posistive supply) 0v

Ignition ON

No 1 ignition - 12.53 v
No 2 Lights -taken fuse out oops lol
No 3 horn, brake light - 12.52v
No 4 Fuel pump - 12.52v
No 5 Fan 12.52v
No 6 Clock - 12.45v
No 7 Main relay 12.45v
No 8 ACC1 for attachments( switched with ignition) 12.45v
No 9 ACC2 for attachments(posistive supply) 12.45v

i also disconected the negitive terminal from the batter, connected the volt meter to the neg and the pos as stated in 7.2 owners manual, and did not seem to get a reading, maybe just getting tired there though.

Sorry to threadjack. But I was having battery woes as well.

I went out and bought a new battery as it didnt seem to be holding a charge. After charging it on the CTEK charger, it was at 13.35V. So about 12.5V with ignition off then 12V with ignition on. Dropping to 9V on start and then 14V idling.
Is this battery fooked?

I have a new one that isnt OEM some weird brand I've never heard off so I'm sure it will be as reliable as my Yuasha It's reading 12.7V after adding the electrolyte.
ktmguy

ktmguy

From your description Emu, the SD charges fine at 14V and the Ctek charger works too.
At 12v with the key on (and headlight going) is slightly weak on the battery, 9V on cranking is too. On cranking under 10V is weakish.
Conclusion dud battery.
ktmguy

ktmguy

Right today after keeping my battery on a gunson dedicated charger for 10 hours, at 1.5 amps

i placed on the bike and started up first time, volts while bike is running 14.4

then did what the manual says to test voltage regulator rectifier.. engine running, lights on, 5000rpm and should be 14v-15v

well the results were 13.7 and 13.76

is this ok or is the rectifier shot , opinions please

oh and one thing i dont need an opinion is the OXIMISER 900 = THE BIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ktmguy

ktmguy

See what happens, 13.7V seems a bit low but lets hope the battery needs a bit recovering and it should be fine.

Yeah I am hoping the same if not looks like a new battery and a rectifier do you think ??

Fingers crossed
