Superduke on a hot day

Hi guys sorry to talk of hot weather, guess this is for the australian riders in the middle of summer.
But how hot should this bike get...I had six bars light up breifly yesterday while stuck behind a slow car ( 38c day.) was a little concerned decieded it needed some more air flow so i slipped passed and was promply booked by a cop for overtaking over double white lines.
I tried to make him understand..seemed to make things worse.

Was a little concerned about it getting that high, am used to the lc4 which would only get to 5 bars occationally.
Is this bad for the motor. Usually it sit on four bars but in traffic five...six was a bit scary.

Any thoughts?

Sam,
I commute on mine here in Perth and have had six bars a few times riding home in heavy traffic on 40deg plus days. Haven't noticed any ill effects to-date and ultimately there is not a lot you can do about it.

Hi Sam,

I have only reached 5 bars...once in Sydney.
Not sure what temp it is at each bar - have a look through the manual it should have it somewhere.

Thanks guys,

Nice to know its not just my bike.

JD your right not a lot can be done about it. I am choosing my rides more carefully though.
Need to get out of the city more often.

Asked my dealer and he just shrugged...said its a big twin.

Six bars is 110c (230f)

Sam,
The SV1000 I had prior to the SD regularly ran at around 105degC on hot wet season days in Darwin without a problem (35degC and 90% plus RH). (It had a temp readout rather than just bars).

I am sure the old air cooled boxers ran even hotter in the same conditions (no temp gauge so you only knew they were getting really hot when you felt them tightening up!!).

Hi All,

I'm from Adelaide Hills. My bike hates the 40 degree days (I hate them too). I also notice it
really chews oil on these hot days, so I avoid them.

I don't know how you guys can ride a bike like this in town. I crack the shits
really easy and start lane filtering. I stick to the hills. If I need to go into town, I
take the cage.

spidermonkey: sorry to hear about the cop.. that really was bad luck for that to
happen. It sounds like you live in Adelaide ... but next time, it's better to keep
quiet though (from experience).
