Superduke Weight

Been looking to do this for a while.

Got my mate up with the corner weight scales we use to set up the caterhams and hillclimb cars.

Fired the old SD trackslag on......

Front weight- 94kg
Rear weight- 86kg.
Total- 180kg exactly!

That's real world weight.
3/4 tank of fuel and oil and coolant levels on max.

Main places the weight has been shed are.....
No lights
Fibreglass tank panels
Shorai battery
Then there's the hundreds of small things like no switch gear, rear side panels, horn, sidestand etc etc etc.


Happy with that, combined with its 125bhp at the wheel it's a pretty capable little tool. Shows how potent a sorted SD would look on paper if you quoted like manufactures specs of dry weight and crank bhp.

Just of the top of my head that would be say 145bhp at the crank and 165kg dry weight? I imagine with a bit of engine mods and scraping every kg off it with carbon etc we could see over 150crank bhp and under 160kg. The press would be wetting their knickers over specs like that!
HHHHmmmm, i may have to ditch me sidestand, thats about the only thing left on it

And as im 6% bodyfat there aint no more weight coming off me till i go on me hols
See Bash, I have a massive advantage, I have at least 2 stone to come off me!!!!
Weighed mine last month on a pallet truck at work when we were bored. Showed 184kg with oil fairly low and about 3 or 4 litres of fuel - thought it'd be lighter to be honest but I only weigh 67kg myself.

Viking- our repacked Leos are a good weight saving. I saw the cans and y piece at 3.75kg
I want to shave 63kg off my bike this year.
That would make bike and rider (without gear) about 275kg
If the bike is making 130bhp the power/weight ratio at the moment is 130/307 = 0.42
If I loose the 5st (63kg) then the figure is 130/244 = 0.53
Or an improvement in overall power to weight ratio of 26%
Down to 178kg.

Same levels as before. Exactly 10L fuel in tank.



Is there any truth in the theory that every 1kg off is roughly the same as adding 1bhp?

Hope it's true. I quite like the sound of it.
It was saying 1kg off will be more beneficial than 1bhp on as we can use the reduced weight everywhere where as we can only use the bhp on the straights.

its 10lbs in weight is roughly equal to 1bhp, that applies to acceleration, helps with braking distances to

more: losing 1lb of unsprung weight is roughly equal to 2lbs of sprung, again this applies to acceleration/decceleration
As Dave said ......power to weight must include rider to get a comparission between bikes.....the lighter the combined weight the more each extra kg lost makes
The biggest and most noticeable effect comes from reducing rotating weight, wheels/discs/sprockets/chain, anything that has to be turned by the engine or stopped by the brakes, here 1lb is equal to 4lbs of sprung weight
Bearing in mind here I'm a Scotsman with a tool kit, hacksaw, drill, grinder, and no money.

520 conversion could be worth a shout. It'll be needing a chain by the end of the year.

As much as I'd love carbon or forged wheels, if I had that cash it would almost pay for a seasons racing.



On rider weight. I completely stopped all my big compound lifting at the gym last September. After about 8years of training for strength/size I dropped it and started back running(I used to run middle distance). Dropped from a lean 14stone to 12st 6. Lost muscle, bit of fat, look like an 8year old girl now, but got my fitness back.

So I'm 85kg fully kitted up now.

Mate, you need the single piece rear with foam as a seat.
Another 2-3kgs don't use the SDR seat as it is heavy almost as heavy as the normal seat.
