ok guys ,
i did search and went through loads of posts but unfortunatley couldnt find the answer, so i have a quick question.
normal running temp,
i leave it till 2-3 bars on start up then go, i no its been warmish in england latley but , traffic not to heavy stop at lights etc the cooling fan is on every 5 mins or so, i have 3 clear bars at the top of temp gauge that never seems to change, the engine is very hot to touch,
rad seems full and the top up tank is above the minimum mark,,

is this normal running for an 08 sdr,

That's how my 07 SD seems to do in anything above about 70F.

Well I just completed 1000km on my new SD. Its an 05, purchased it 3 weeks ago with 200km on it.
So I checked the valve clearances all good. Changed the oil, ended up a just over the max level after a good run.

Here is my question, the previous 1000km were done on the open road or in nice cool evening weather. (Also I never took to much notice of the temp.) However after completing a reasonable size service I monitored the temperature more closely, I noticed when cruising along at lowish speed stuck behind 2-3 cars that the temp indicator would jump from 4 - 5 bars and then shortly back to the norm of 4 bars, the obvious question is that norm for this bike. Reason I ask is I never noticed it before and after completing the service I am a little paranoid. I never disturbed the cooling system when doing the service.
I feel a little dumb asking this question as I should know better, however the bike is new to me and Im not familar with it.
