There is no need to check the valves in the first service. This information from a dealer service center. Also, according to s-duke riders the lc8 holds the valves in spec well to 20 000 km. Some have checked them after 15 000 kilometers and still in spec, some later. My bike has seen 2600 km, valves were not checked in the first service and it has the dealer's stamps in the service log, so under warranty whatev happens.

Of course the dealer will do them in the first service as you are paying for it

You have your repair and service manual which came with the bike? Flip to the back, the works done in the service are listed there. Also, you can download the manual from ktm's international website. If you look closely, the valve cleareance check isn't dotted on the R-versions list, asked about this and was told that the standard model doesn't need it either. Of course the R-version has titanium valves but I don't see how that's relevant?

Would like to see a service center really go through that list though, a major service would take like a decade. Valve check, changing all the fluids(forks, oil, coolant, brakes), checking the torque of all the bolts, checking wheel bearings and alignment etc. taking the whole thing apart, it's all a laugh really. In the first service they changed the oil and filter, checked the fluid levels, took it for a test ride and checked that the rev-limiter works and everything was running smoothly, that's about it.

Does the 600 mile service have to be performed by a KTM dealer to maintain the warranty ?
