Throttle/Fuel issues

Hey Guys,

Bike: 08 SDR, Akros + map, High flow air filter

Here is my issue: On my ride last night I had trouble getting past 7000rpm and it felt like the bike was governing itself. There was a huge drop in power but if I backed off the throttle and only gave partial thtottle I could get the use of the RPM range but still if i tried to open it up I was down on power. It was a little hesitant in the lower part of the RPM range but as soon as 7k hit, the bike felt like i slammed into a wall. Any Ideas?

Have you got a power commander or anything? Either way if you have washed it recently I would have a look at the big grey connector, its a common problem. Basically open it up, dry it out thoroughly, bung some dilectric grease in there and put it all back together again.

If you have tuneecu or power commander try reloading your maps as well.

No power commander or tune ECU. The funny thing is it was running great in the morning but then I went out agian for another ride and this problem came up. I did not wash the bike or ride in any rain either so any other ideas?

Not really, a mate of mine had a problem a bit like yours and his negative battery terminal was loose so worth a check. The vibes at certain revs aggravated it.

Could be running uber rich as well, don't know apart from that

here's a longshot but symptoms are just like what happened to me once. Loose front (or rear) coil pack, wouldnt rev past 7k but idled and ran fine, my fault as i had recently changed a leaky v/c gasket. Didnt show itself for 500 miles...

Like TC said, check the coil (spark pug boots) and make sure they are seated all the way.

I had a similar issue with another bike (R1) and it turned out to be a broken spark plug. Chased my ass for weeks changing jetting and the like. Pissed me off. Replaced the plugs and problem was resolved.

Thanks guys, this helped a lot! I did have the rectifier changed about 3000km ago and I know I am running rich which needs to get sorted! I will look into the quickest and most simple possibilites first and work my way down the list until I figure it out. Thanks again, much appreciated!
