ok, very easy, you have two lines comming out of your throttle assembly on the handle bar. one of them has an adjusting nut and a counter nut which holds it in place. adjusting nut is long, ~2-3cm (1") long, and i think it's a 10mm nut. losen the counter nut (smaller one, closer to the grip), then turn adjusting nut (it should turn easily with your fingers).
as you turn it clocwise, you insrease the free play, counterclockwise decreases it (i think). as you're turning it, have the other hand on the throttle, moving it from full closed to slightly opened, and you will fill the slack getting less (or more).
the owners manual (not repair manual) has a quick writup and a picture, it was right before the section on checking oil if my memory is correct...

if you do it with the bike running, you will see right away if you went too tight (idle will increase)

cheers!

Shade, this is hard to believe you have never adjusted that... you must be allot like me cos I do not enjoy messing about,

all of the duc guys i ride with are freaking (an`al) also know as "botty"(<---hehee) about throttle free play.. to me personally it makes little difference...

one of my close buds thinks it increases the performance... he also thinks that changing the triple trees will make him have to remove links in his chain...

I take out all slack, just back from where I can hear the throttles closing properly. Doesn't matter what bike it is, I don't like loose throttle. Slower or quicker opening, ok, but not free play.

Well, I adjusted the free play in my throttle down to a safe minimum. I took it out right after and found it to be very 'hair trigger' like. I was wearing my new summer gloves which I am still wearing in and getting used to, they are Kangaroo and are very sensitive, I can feel everything and I am a bit twitchy with them on as it feels like i've got very thin/weak gloves on. I found the throttle a bit challenging at first but relaxed into it eventually.

Yesterday I took it out again but as it was chilly in the morning I wore my winter gloves which I love, they are so comfy and feel right. I'm am very sued to them as I've been wearing them for months and suddenly the throttle response felt awesome!! I can honestly say the bike has NEVER felt/riddeen so well since i've had it! I had the best road riding experience EVER....I didnt want to come home...and I ended up doing the same run twice just cos I was having so much fun!

It is SUCH an improvement

I've just got to get into my summer gloves a bit more, I always get this seasonal shift between gloves but his year it's worse cos they are new. Theoretically it should be better once I've found my way with them cos they are much better gloves than my old summer ones....I've just got to re-train myself a little bit.

Cant fugging wait to hit Brands now!!

So how much cable play do we think we can get away with?

What's the minimum while not being effected with full lock? 1mm?

I'm not sure about how much cable there is but my throttle rotatets about 2mm. That's based on the movement of the widest part of the inner part of the rubber grip.

From lock to lock it barely gets affected, I'd say it only shortens it by 1mm...I could barely notice it.
