TuneBoy help, please.

Guys,

I've just thrown money into buying the TuneBoy starter kit for my bike. I know a few guys here have got TuneBoy tweaked bikes and I know there's a few over at ADVRider too.

I'm not intending to dyno my bike right now (maybe at a later date, especially if I don't succeed without it), so I'm looking for tips and tricks on how to set the bike up.

Ideally I'd like to be "self sufficient" in the TB magic. I'd love to be able to feel the bike and know what adjustments I need to do. From what I've understood you can do some datalogging with the TB software. I'm hoping I could use that to see whether my tweaks are successful or not.

I might be dreaming. but I thought I'd give it a shot.

If you have any experience and/or tips on using the TuneBoy, please let me know! Cheers!

Hiya - the map I'm using is the KTM map for Akras (KM611EU0802031), so I got my dealer to load it.
Tuneboy can also load this map (something which PCIII can't) - goto their UK website & download it: http://www.tuneboy.co.uk/model/80/KTM/9 ... DukeR.aspx

Re SAS - it's fitted on all KTM bikes (& most others under various names), so did you buy 2nd hand then & previous owner disable it ?

As far as using tuneboy to disable the O2 sensors, it was possible with the 05/06 SD by loading a specific basemap (which disabled them).
However, none of the 08 SDR basemaps disable the 02 sensors, so you'll have to revert to the physical method - ie: PCIII 02 eliminators, or equivalent.
As for the iPhone - it's a great toy.

Thanks!

the-bunker, were you using a PCIII currently or TuneBoy for your SDR?
I'm looking at the available PCIII maps and wondering if I should try one of those as a base-map.

The one that comes closest to my current bike set-up is this:
M925-503 European model-Akrapovic full exhaust with baffle, Stock air filter, Dynojet O2 eliminator fitted
Except for the "O2 elminators fitted" part.

cat, yes you might be right there! I'm going to have to see whether the throttle position is below 6% at the problem area. This is where a remote-data-logging feature would rule. Imagine someone being able to sit in a car behind me, with a laptop in their lap, talking to me telling me what's going on in the engine...

... dreams, dreams...

Also, thanks cat for the info on the SASorectomy; I had confused it with the Canisterectomy.... Sowwy...! Not forgetting the-bunker for pointing it out in the first case.

I think I've got an idea why it might upset things; it'll give the O2 sensor a totally wrong reading, but also depending on how violent the air flow into the exhaust valve are is then there might be a dash of blow-back into the cylinder; but that's a very very far fetched theory!

Looks like the downstairs loo isn't getting refurbished this weekend and I'll be milling some plates for the SASorectomy...

6%...that's interesting. It would be useful to have clarification of that. It seems likely to me that that's the low-to-mid transition point, but what it means in terms of correcting the AF ratio [from the anti-emissions setup to what works properly], I don't know. ...Maybe, depending on TPS input, it switches back and forth between the two maps according to the O2 sensor, thereby causing the problem.

I seem to have read that there's a TPS reset function in TB too, and it might be that this could a bit out, and therefore the right maps aren't used at the right spots. We'll see...

I've just done the SAS removal trick and to my astonishment the bike really is smoother down at the low RPMs.... I wanted to do the hardware related stuff before doing any software related stuff.

Thanks guys for the tips and help!
